The History:

Hello, I thought it might be a good time for me to jump in

and give a quick introduction and history.

I don’t think most people know this, but it was a friend of

mine and myself that designed the QS8274 back in ’07 and made

the prototype used by Grizzly4x4.

It was originally built for the fun of it and not necessarily production.

We wanted this winch to look good and pull better, so we designed it

around the most powerful servo we knew of, the Hitec 5955TG.

We weren’t really designers, and only marginal machinists,

so I am very happy that it has proven itself well.

Since then, I have made about 40 and assembled all but the last 11,

which I do not know the status of. After the 1st batch was sold by MSD,

I had intended to continue producing them but had some problems

that ended my machining capabilities for over a year. Then for other reasons,

more time went by ’til this year, when Ben/MSD urged me to start another small batch.

Then a call from John at SDS Customz Spurred me to get them finished and sent out

days before the MSD scale Nat’ls.

For a couple of reasons, I have made the decision to offer them directly.

They will be sold in an assembled, but unwired form. If you wish to purchase

them ready to run from MSD, that may still be an option in the future.

(provided Ben and I work out the details)

I am telling you this to clear the air a little on the whole situation and

to take full responsibility for the time that has gone by with no availability.

CUSTOM BRACES: 55mm is the standard brace size included in the 1/4″-20 (Comp and Fab) kits. If you have a chassis that is smaller or larger than this measurement, and need custom braces to complete your kit, you will need to give me an inside measurement of the space between your chassis side plates. I make custom braces over the weekend, so it is best to give me that info before a Saturday night. The 5/16″ braces are drilled 1″ deep, and will self-tap a 3mm screw. The Mini Kit 1/4″ braces are drilled 3/4″ deep, and will self-tap a 2mm screw. There is no extra charge for custom braces. If your chassis already has 5/16″ diameter cross braces, then you can order a kit without them.

CUSTOM KITS: I can put whatever parts you want in a kit, and probably save you some money too. The reason I offer so many parts in the kit is so you can have spares of everything, plus I don’t know how high you want to mount your body off the chassis. If you can determine how you want your mounts set up, there is no reason to buy the entire kit, you can just purchase the parts you need. Shipping alone costs me an average of $2.50, so a minimal kit will be around $3.50-$4.00. You will have to PM me the parts list you want, and I will quote you a price.

Design Idea Behind This Wheel:

We designed this wheel with multiple wheel offsets.

This wheel design will allow you, with all three wheel widths and

three different hub lengths, to have 72 different wheel offsets.

The rim itself was machined in a way to allow the center section to be bolted from either side of the wheel or just flip the center section and bolt in place – this will change the offset slightly.

The center section has a small relief cut into it to allow small adjustments.

Keeping the hex on the same side of the wheel and moving the complete center section to the inside will again change the offset.

Offset adjustments can be as small as .055

These are a clamping no slop style locker designed with high power Wraith, TTC, and FOFF style trucks. I have taken every step to ensure thee highest quality and durability. I know a lot of people including myself have had issues with the 4 small size bolts that hold regular lockers to the ring gear. With this unit the hardware size is increased to a larger 4-40 size fastener. This will require a slight mod be made to your ring gear. You simply need to bevel or countersink the mounting holes in the ring gear. Both axles get clamped down tight together by the floating key piece inside the locker. This is clamped down by a single large 10-32 setscrew to ensure a tight grip. These and all my parts are manufactured right here in the USA from quality American materials.

New per customer request is the light weight aluminum version of this unit weighing in at almost 1/3 the weight but still utilizing the clamping design. We are now also offering both the aluminum and steel versions with a standard hardware option. Thats right you can now get these with the stock 2mm thread and 4 stainless bolts for install. Some did not like the idea of drilling gears or lack the tools. These will be a direct drop in no mod deal. 100% bolt on install”thumbsup”. So thats 4 different options to suit all your crawling needs. You can mix and match the steel and aluminum versions also if you want more weight up front and less out back. WB8 Splined Driveshaft

Metal to metal universal joint driveshaft system with splined plastic slider. This design provides more durability than traditional driveshaft designs because it uses a screw shaft for a more positive lock to the output shaft.
