Default Jeep JK Owners

Looks like Evo has been talking with Tamiya and has come up with a cantilever suspension for the JK. Looks like a big TXT-1 now. Can't say that I like the idea.

Wranglers haven't been leaf sprung since 96.

Interesting way to stuff some long travel tuneable suspension in a tight spot I suppose.

I don't understand!!!

I can't figure out why cantilever suspension get's trash talked like it does. Yes, it's complicated, but if the pivots are supported on bearings and are smooth, it should work fine right? I've never run one...maybe someone could explain?

A cantilever set up won the 2007 Super Class National spot.

Not on a street driven wannabe.

As far as performance goes, you can get longer travel out of a shorter shock, cooler running shocks (due to the shorter stroke requirements), much better protected from potential trail damage. I'm sure there's more but thats just off the top of my head.

Barbie Jeep? WTF?

Shorter shock will see much larger axial forces due to the cantilever, it will run hotter. Also the spring will have to be increased, and finding a spring rate to fit your setup will be more difficult.

Protection, yeah, but why would you want all the extra shit down there? What a PITA

Its nice and all, but they don't mention having to relocate the stock muffler.

Obviously I don't own a JK just yet but where is the fuel tank located at in the new models? It can't be that white plastic thing can it? Just seems smaller then I expected.....

Yes I know - but to most who might buy it would like to be informed of the added cost of a new exhaust system they may or may not need to buy.

And yeah, that white thing is the gas tank.

Would there be an axial load on the shocks since it pivots at both ends? I'm not sure so explain it to me please, I might be wrong but would like to know if I am. Obviously there are many variables to take into account such as cantilever ratio, shock stroke, valving, spring rate, etc. These would all effect it in different ways.

... Here I go over thinking things again.
