| which 1:1 truck should i get?
alright ive been looking for a real truck for some time now. and today when i opened up the paper i see 3 trucks that i would consider a 1981 toy with 7500mi on a crate motor. body lift (i know dumb but it would do till i got a marlin extreme lift) for 3000 thats so far my first choice, but in a very close secound there is a 76' fj40 w/winch and a 4speed for 4000. and my last choice is a 87 jeep wrangler with 215kmi smitty bars(whatever those are) lifted for 3500. I really only have enough for the toy pu which is my favorite year too. any opinions ? |

Get the 81 Toyota!!!! With the body lift you can tuck the tranny and x-cases up for a flat belly BIG improvement there. Decent springs, crossover steering, dual cases, lockers and 35's to 38's and you'll have a DANDY trail rig.

I'd get the 81 yota. The engine in that Jeep has to be close to imploding at that milage. That, and you cant haul anything with the FJ like you can with the truck.

Depends on what type of trails you run. For tight, windy, narrow trails, a short FJ40 is great for maneuvering in between trees. If you run rocks or lots of hill climbs, the longer wheelbase of the pickup will be beneficial. With that said, next Toy I build will be an FJ40. Would be great for some of the local tight trails, and it has one hell of a nostalgia factor The Jeep would be great for breaking parts and a harsh ride! |

Forget all that, just take the money you would spend on one of those and start building a tube buggy. I have less in my buggy than I do in my yj. Not exactly a daily driver but if thats what you're after just buy a honda. BIRFIELDS SUCK!! |

I run across more noobs on the trail with setup rigs that A) don't know how to drive them B) don't know how to fix them. I say start out with a good sturdy toyota and build it up as you go--build it as your driving experiance grows and your fab experiance grows.. And yes---birfs a re gay | |

I called the 81 yota. and its got oregon registration or something , i don't know how much that will cost to fix plus didn't yotas from other states than California have like less smog stuff. i couldn't get a hold of the fj seller ill try again tommorow. but yeah i think ill be getting the yota as long as no one else buys it out from underneath me. i need it for a dd / a learning trail rig. I think the yota should be good for that. it also has one of those wood rack things on it. so if i really had to haul stuff (which i dont) i could. he said this weekend to come out and look at it . man i hope i get it. those things are so rare around here. just gotta figure out what tires to put on it too , if i get it. bfg mud terrains or tsl's or mtr's. probably 80% on road , so im thinkin the mud terrains will last longest. |

That's why you build a flat bed as soon as you get them.

Buy mine here , it will and has gone just about everywhere and is a strong truck that I drove daily for quite some time. I actually think I got it close to sold but I never count me chickens till they hatch and am still looking for someone to buy it.
