Default yj7 trail and summer cruiser

The jeep is actually a 1 owner (guy I got it from didn't title it). *The title says it was sold with 15 miles on it. *Has 140k on it now (low for these)

Plans:

4" lift
33x12.5 tires on cragar soft 8 15x10 3.75" backspacing
Full cage
BTF tube fenders
Bumpin stereo (had to see who was reading)
CJ7 hood *
CJ7 grill * *
tube doors for summer















Ive been collecting parts and prepping...

SYE completed *(half think I should have done a 4:1 while I had it apart)
8.8 purchased (new brakes sitting in the box)
dana 30 with 4.10's
pulled some dana 30 shafts out of an XJ this morning, couldnt get the hubs off at the yard so I had to take them with.
CJ7 hood and grill








I finally pulled the trigger on the lift... I was going to go with rough country because they give jeepforum members killer deals but, they get horrid reviews. So after allot of research, I found out that Rusty's,fabtech,bds etc all use the same springs (rusty's even says it on their site proudly). That led me to a thread on jeepforum and springs from Fabtech on Amazon... the best part about Amazon, free shipping. I went with 3.5" springs (other companies call them 4"), daystar poly bushings and a stock pitman arm from an xj (same as the 4" drop pitman for the yj).

looked out my window to a ups truck backing in my drive... Leafs are in (notice the packing)

the xj I pulled the shafts from did. the 95+ xj's with abs used a stronger ujoint.

Ah, didn't know the ABS ones were stronger, mine's non ABS and the ones Dad and Little Sister had were '90 and '92.

Front axle is back together, I forgot to buy new u-joints so, I only stuck 1 bolt in each hub.. I cut the spring perches off the rear axle and got it ground down. I havent a clue how people cut them off and reuse them.

Still debating putting a locker in now or waiting... have to check the budget. I saved a bunch on the lift so I hope the money is there.

Spring perches are cheap....guys that reuse them scare me.

4" springs and SOA, 33's might be a bit small.

Lockers might be a bit cheaper if you know where to look ;)

Im going spring under... thinking about 35's and some body "work".


Do tell of this cheaper locker option. I almost ordered a spartan yesterday.

I ran 35's on my 79 with a 4" suspension and 1" body lift, they tucked quite nicely at full stuff.

Brake lines and new rear shackles came in last night. With switching to an 8.8 and using a slightly taller spring perch, Im loosing about 1" of lift in the rear. To counter that, I am going to run a 1" boom shackle. That should also keep my springs from hitting the frame at full flex.


I (well my bank account) decided to hold off on the locker for a couple months...

looks like it will be a nice project,finding good cj fenders are tuff and dont waste the cash on the 4to1

I did an 8.8 swap in my '94, except I did an SOA at the same time. I did it similar to you in that I collected a lot of parts first and did it all at once. I used a custom set of 2 inch lift Alcan springs with the SOA and ran 35's. I eliminated the disconnect in the front axle and put a Super 30 kit in. This is all before if eventually had D60's front and rear and a V8 swap. It was never ending........

yeah, sticking with the stock motor until I determine what diesel to swap in.

Still need to order tires and wheels, looking at cheap steel wheels with a 4" backspace.

if your around ohio i have these for sale i bought these for my dakota and they stick out to far and dont look good, i am in ohio,

my arms feel like they are going to fall off but, the front end is lifted. I gained exactly 3.5" not the higher numbers some people claim. I found the best tools for the job were PB blaster and a 24" breaker bar. I did end up having to cut the bolts off on the back leaf hanger but, the shackle bolts came right off.

Before I can call the front end done, I need to install brake lines, install brakes and replace the tie rod ends (found them to be shot). Im going to turn it around this week and do the rear. I wont be able to set the pinion angle but I can bolt the axle in.

I took some cell phone pics but they came out like crap...

got the rear axle under the Jeep, its just bolted in and not welded. I have to wait for the trans to be done before I can set the pinion angle. I must have done the math pretty good... with the 1" lift shackles and the loss from the perches and the 8.8, the rear comes out 1/4" taller than the front.

I put the dana 35 at the curb and the scrapers not only took it but came and asked if I had more... it was a couple of local "kids" that spoke english so, I loaded the stripped dana 30 in the back of their truck for them (easy with the tractor).
