Default 71 Nova with zz502

Ok, here is my dilema... Power steering pump pucked on me this weekend, I cant walk into the auto parts store and tell them what year ,make, engine and color the car is since it obviousy isnt a stock motor.

Looks like a stock chevy pump, I just cant find a listing for a compatable pump that says it works with zz502.

Any body know what will fit ? I suspect it a stock bb pump is the ticket...is there a difference in the tears or engibe size in the BB's ?

I will post pics of the pump this evening if the local performance parts house is no help.

Here is a couple pics of the car.

I had a chance a couple weeks ago to pic up these seats and now they are installed

And here is a pic of the new air cleaner,

And a burnout (click on pic for vid)

Another vid...

Maybe this will work VVVVVV

Got it !!!!!

The pump should be the same no matter big or small block. The brackets will be different but they should be removable.
Shoot a picture of your current setup and ill see if I can help you find something to fit.

Yeah, thats what prompted this ride....missing my 72 that I didnt part with on my terms. The ex crashed it into a cement diveder after doing 5 360's on I-5. 25 years ago.

Thanks for the compliment .

This spring I hope, really curious to see what it will run. Kinda nervous also, never ran a car down the track before.

Neat part is my son is going to run his civic also when we go,he is putting 600hp to the wheels on 12 lbs of boost. Should be fun to run side by side.

You both gonna run slicks? Leave hard and bang that 4 speed clean, low 12 possible 11 from what I see in pics...if the kids car hooks up he'll probably serve you up some rice, those imports are quick.

I really dig the ride though, perfect to jump in "take out the family and pin the kids to the back seat and giggle" daily driver.

No drag radials or slicks unless mine are bald by then thinking we will run them as they are since that is the form they will be in daily drivin.

I fully expect to get beat by his ride,my guess is it will go down with me getting the jump for the first 1/3rd of the track give or take since I have more torque and should hook better at the start. Once he spools up and is able to get some traction....I think I will see a black blurr wizzin by me.

We both appreciate each others ride and live by the saying, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I just keep telling him "no matter what you do/try, you will never be able to do a wheel stand " which quickly stops any chatter about horse power to weight ratios.......

I have been wanting to relocate my guages since I got the car. I never was a fan of the 3 hole pod located under the dash.
I had MThead make me up an insert that I will place in the stock radio location. Another buddy made me a great deal on original unmolested bezel and it was a tough choice to cut up the unmolested one. My main reason for replacing my dash bezel was mine was cracked, this one isnt at all. In the end I decided that the car was far from stock and placing the guages where I wanted them in a uncracked bezel was the way to go.
The next little piece MThead made is a piece of plexi that is black on one side. He used his CNC router to carve the black off to expose the clear NOVA script. I will place that over the "fasten seat belt" light and rewire that backlight warning device to come on with the dash lights threw the dimmer switch.

Hopefully I will have time soon to install the goodies.

Another project I wanted to get done was to replace the stock lens and lights with led's. My stock lens were in rough shape.

I ordered these hoping they would fit the 71....they didnt

So I had my machinist make me some adaptors out of 3/4" thick delrin. The idea was to fill the gap on all 4 sides and also sandwich the new leds in place at the same time. So we came up with this.

I should have them installed tommorrow.

I got the new lens installed. As it turns out it was a pefect fit and the adaptor plate compressses the lens in place with no need to utilize the additional holes near closest to the lens. I believe I will install clear leds in those locations with a small chrome bezel to act as back up lights since these assemblies eliminate the reverse lights. The outer holes that actually secure the filler panel and lens will have delrin button caps made to hide/blend the screw hole.

Next decision is wether or not to mill in the horizontal groves to match and tie in the groves in the rear filler SS panel. Ideas/thoughts are welcome.

Getting the horizontal grooves milled into the delrin would be a nice touch. I prefer subtle touches like this that make people scratch their heads because they know something is different but can't put their fingers on what it is.

Thanks for the input guys, I think I understand you are saying put the grooves in.... I agree, to me it looks unfinished without them, super clean and simple, yet unfinished in my eyes.

Spent some time in the garage today.
I ordered up some white face guages a while ago and decided to tear into the dash to install them.

Painted and cleaned the inner bezels. Metalic grey for the face bezel and the trim bezel went body color.

Reasembled the unit and I will drop it in place tommorrow after the column drys,I painted it body color also.
