1959 willys pickup Figured it was only a matter of time before I owned the real thing :ror: I've been searching and praying for years to come across one, but they were either a pile of rust with wheels, or completely restored and upwards of 20k, but I came across this one a few days ago, after a few phone calls back and forth, I sent him a down payment ( he's in north Carolina, i'm in Florida) I'm going to make the 18 hr round trip next weekend to pick her up. It's a 1959 willys pickup, with a chevy shortbed frame and running gear, chevy 350, automatic trans, little to no rust. http://i447.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps0e6aa5ec.jpg http://i447.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps372f4385.jpg http://i447.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps8968ba1d.jpg http://i447.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps5c32bfd3.jpg http://i447.photobucket.com/albums/q...pse76a2dab.jpg |
Re: 1959 willys pickup I've built and owned quite a few of these , They are very unique. I'm sure you'll be very happy with it. Merry Christmas. |
Re: 1959 willys pickup plumbing parts under the hood is never a good thing... Ditch the wood bed in favor of a tube bed with roll bar, lift it and throw on some 35's or larger. Has potential to be bad ass. Always loved those trucks. |
Re: 1959 willys pickup Yeah, I got a chuckle seeing that. It's far from perfect, but it's a good starting point. With a little work, it should be decent. Maybe I can turn it into a 1.1 of little willy Lol http://i447.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps4206fb3c.jpg |
Re: 1959 willys pickup hope you have deep pockets! Those beds are easy to make, if you have a sheet metal shop or an older heating and air place, they can bend the metal for the sides. |

Re: 1959 willys pickup Yep, I had it made to replicate don's rig. I wish they kept it way it looked. |
Re: 1959 willys pickup Like that it on a newer frame, you gona keep it stock or go for a build |
Re: 1959 willys pickup Keep it stock. Maybe throw some larger tires on it, but the bulk of the work i'll be doing to it will be to make it more daily drivable. |
Re: 1959 willys pickup I just scraped one of these, only thing good was the rear fenders, what a shame |
Re: 1959 willys pickup Nice rig to start with Jake, also glad to see little willy still around! Can't wait to see what you turn it into bud. BTW... If you need some parts for that thing let me know.. I've got a salvage yard around here that has more pickups/wagons than you can shake a stick at"thumbsup" I'd throw some stuff in the mail for ya if ya needed something.. |
Re: 1959 willys pickup Good to know! Thanks! |
Re: 1959 willys pickup Cool rig! Are you going to convert it to 4WD? |
Re: 1959 willys pickup Well, after a LONG 18+ hour trip, i'm finally back. got her home safely, a few things need to be address, there was a bit more rust on the body then mentioned, no big deal though. The biggest deal for me is the front tire placement, the wheel base is off, hard to tell with the pics, but i'll take some better ones tomorrow. from IFS assembly needs be pushed a good 3-5" further towards the grill to look right. Once I get my garage set up, I'm definitely going to make it 4wd, but for now it's fine. more pics tomorrow, i'm going to bed! |
Re: 1959 willys pickup Odd request, but could you post of pic of the surface details of the headlight bulb? |
Re: 1959 willys pickup here are some quick shots, once it's off he dolly i'll take some pics showing the wheelbase issue. http://i447.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps44a8cf2d.jpg http://i447.photobucket.com/albums/q...psdb15207a.jpg http://i447.photobucket.com/albums/q...pscee9d02d.jpg http://i447.photobucket.com/albums/q...psd99a00ac.jpg Here's the headlight detail BigSki, http://i447.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps808f8e3d.jpg |
