The 265/50's get too much sidewall roll which makes the truck wobble and roll around. The front 55 series tires weren't completely terrible but running a bit shorter all the way around shouldn't hurt anything. Besides, I wanted to run 17's anyway so I can do bigger brakes.

More air pressure.

Bigger brakes makes no sense either. Are you overheating the current brakes? Solid rotors and good pads. How much could you be slowing down in that thing?

Who said the only thing I plan on doing with the truck is auto cross? That's just where I get to play a bit harder than I do on the street to get things sorted out.

My brakes are actually fantastic as is unless we run back to back to back then the drums get hot and do nothing. When I say I'm doing a big brake setup I'm not talking about 14" carbon rotors. I have brand new stock application rotors and hawk pads for the front, I'll put those in the back and do something simple like speedwaymotors.com 2 piece rotors and V6 4x4 toyota 4 piston calipers up front.

Like these xj wheels I doctored up a bit?

I've had several sets of wheels that were on Jeeps before I got them. The 5 spoke 15's that were on the silver truck came off a friend's yj.

Man people love Hawks...they are not to be used IMO. They fail often (backing and material seperate).

Do yourself a favor and get AX-6 Carbotechs for DD and AutoX use. They aren't track pads and work well cold or warm. I ran mine DD in a WRX in the winter.

[ColonelClink]Eef you do not see zings from my antiquated point of view you are in zee wrong and you are zee stupeed![/ColonelClink]

I was looking at running the lightest wheels I could find to limit unsprung weight and to get it to spool up quicker until I talked to guys like the 3 time national champion that runs with us and he told me I'd never notice a difference unless I ran a set of humvee wheels then switched to an Uber light wheel. Everyone has switched to 17's these days and most run at least a 225/40 on a 17x7 or 17x8.

Face it EeePee you've been out of it too long, the world left you behind.

They don't make pads for my truck. Hardly anyone makes a "performance" pad for it and the hawk pads that they do make aren't a race or even autocross rated version. I don't know what pads are on my truck now but I just inspected them last weekend and they are easily 90% life. They stop extremely well too hence why they are still on it and my new parts are sitting in boxes.

You guys are nuts. Go to big events and pay attention. Whether it's Autocross or road racing, sidewalls are important and so is the reduction of rotating mass. My buddy just placed pole position in his ITA Integra at Daytona at the SCCA Runoffs today. On 15s. Friend is National Champ Autocrosser in a old Civic on 13s. One of the fastest cars out there. Another buddy in his Porsche run ProSolos and can be top PAX and fit the smallest wheel he could.

I could even bring up the old test about 15, 16 and 17s and which was fastest.

EeePee you are thinking of silly little cars or old ones. Plus most of those cars look crazy with 13" wheels that are 30-50% hanging outside the body of the car because they can't fit them correctly.

There are no 15" let alone 13" wheels that fit on Vettes which own production level cars the Autox when you look at actual raw times. PAX times are stupid and archaic IMO and 100% unusable, the fact they still use this is mind numbing. Lets not even talk about how poorly the SCCA class rules are written, they worked in the 80's, but now are so biased it's not even worth trying to compete nationally unless you have the exact car that class was built on.

Technically they do fit correctly on the car and according to the rules. Don't you still see the 4wd monsters still running massively wide tires? Porsche guy is in a current GT3. Aaron Ritch. Complains he can't get a wide enough tire and his are like 335 rears or something stupid wide.

PAX is a little goofy. Unless you're on top of it. Class rules then made more sense than they do now. Akin to the new crawling rules. Makes less sense now than before to me. Though that's besides the point.

And don't forget we're talking about a little silly Toyota truck. And 17s do not make sense on it.

A civic with 47 hp will be faster on 13" wheels with 40 series rubber sure. I have more torque than many econoboxes make in hp so a little more rotating mass ain't that big of a deal.

If someone made a 255/30/15 I'd swap gears and run them. But they don't exist so I'll run what's available. Even if it is on a silly little toyota truck.

225/50/15 would be normal for smaller cars like a Civic or Integra. New cars just went bigger wheels for looks, not function. I ran 20x9.5x13 which was about 3.5 inches of sidewall. 40 series would be a rubberband.

Sidewall indicators (little triangle) are your friend with air pressures and sidewall rollover.

255/30/15 is a 21/10/15 so they still have 3" sidewalls. No rubber band, just lots of traction at least in my view.

What? 255/30/15? That exists? And is relevant?

Built in guides, sadly none of the tires I ran on the WRX had those would have been nice. We use tire markers or chalk.

And I will agree with Corey, tire tech has changed a great deal in how sidewalls getting shorter are actually better than taller. Look at how wild the design and construction of the BFG Rival is. Since I began autox ('09) until now the tire tech has drastically changed.

Looks like your Hoosiers had way too much roll, those letters are near gone.
