And so it begins...

Here is how this '69 GTO sat for years in a buddy's hangar... I talked him out of it.

Onto the trailer to be taken to Sidehill's shop.

Supposedly before being sat outside the motor was rebuilt... then taped up. Not a very good tape job...

Driver's side head removed: Looking good so far...

Pax side head removed... what's that you say?

The last cylinder on the pax side had standing water inside of it...

Decided to sleeve that cylinder to save the #'s matching block.

I got my hands on a stroker like that.........Soaked it in metal rescue for a week and crossing my fingers.......
Cheaper to get a new bottom end in my case than fix it though.

Nice body though.

Re: And so it begins...

It's got all of the body panels, doors, trunk, hood front fenders etc... the left rear quarter will be totally replaced. Sidehill on this site is doing the work for me as he's a mechanical genius... then we could sit down and talk for hours about his mad body work skills.

If we can't save the bottom end then I'll stroke it with a kit from Butler.

Gonna get new pistons anyway... it's at 30 over right now and I didn't want to go any bigger so sleeving the cylinder is a good fix !

Body came back from the blasters... It's funny, what we were concerned about wasn't so bad and things we hadn't seen were more of a problem...

Since there were no rear brakes on the rear axle decided to convert to disc brakes on it.
Also ordered 3.73 gears and an Auburn locker for it.

Since it's an A body design I found the package tray from a '69 Chevelle is a direct replacement for it. Score!

Correction: finding the package tray extensions for a '69 A body so far has been impossible. However I can buy a complete piece that incorporates the rear seat divider, package tray & package tray extensions. So I'll return the single package tray and order the complete piece.
