And so it begins... Here is how this '69 GTO sat for years in a buddy's hangar... I talked him out of it. http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...s04e3333c.jpeg http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...s98300332.jpeg Onto the trailer to be taken to Sidehill's shop. http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...sdbbd6cac.jpeg |
Re: And so it begins... Supposedly before being sat outside the motor was rebuilt... then taped up. Not a very good tape job... Driver's side head removed: Looking good so far... http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...s712da637.jpeg Pax side head removed... what's that you say? http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...sc6252d66.jpeg The last cylinder on the pax side had standing water inside of it... http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...s9b6c1574.jpeg Decided to sleeve that cylinder to save the #'s matching block. |
Re: And so it begins... I got my hands on a stroker like that.........Soaked it in metal rescue for a week and crossing my fingers....... Cheaper to get a new bottom end in my case than fix it though. Nice body though. |
Re: And so it begins... It's got all of the body panels, doors, trunk, hood front fenders etc... the left rear quarter will be totally replaced. Sidehill on this site is doing the work for me as he's a mechanical genius... then we could sit down and talk for hours about his mad body work skills. If we can't save the bottom end then I'll stroke it with a kit from Butler. Gonna get new pistons anyway... it's at 30 over right now and I didn't want to go any bigger so sleeving the cylinder is a good fix ! |
Re: And so it begins... Dan's got it down to the bare chassis now. Body is at the blasters... http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps8b402ff8.jpg |
Re: And so it begins... ohh man, killer project! |
Re: And so it begins... Love the old Gto's. They have tons of potential to be power houses |
Re: And so it begins... Great Start ( and Killer find..! "thumbsup") Looking forward to watching your progress man..! |
Re: And so it begins... Awsome!!!!!!cant wait to see it finished"thumbsup" |
And so it begins... Body came back from the blasters... It's funny, what we were concerned about wasn't so bad and things we hadn't seen were more of a problem... http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/03/02/urujumer.jpg Package tray is toast. Gotta find a replacement... http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/03/02/esu8ydan.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/03/02/8a2aze3u.jpg |
Since there were no rear brakes on the rear axle decided to convert to disc brakes on it. Also ordered 3.73 gears and an Auburn locker for it. |
And so it begins... Since it's an A body design I found the package tray from a '69 Chevelle is a direct replacement for it. Score! Correction: finding the package tray extensions for a '69 A body so far has been impossible. However I can buy a complete piece that incorporates the rear seat divider, package tray & package tray extensions. So I'll return the single package tray and order the complete piece. |
And so it begins... Adding a Helwig frame strengthing kit. The kit is BEEFY! My welds suck compared to Dan's... http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/04/16/umu9eva6.jpg |
Re: And so it begins... Sarge is a pretty good welder.... |
Re: And so it begins... Mmmm love me old school resto's! reminds me of my 1962 Chevy Impala 4 door. Good times. |
And so it begins... Finished boxing the frame. It's SOLID now. Next is the BMR full suspension kit... http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/04/18/equ8usyt.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/04/18/hevymu3e.jpg |
Re: And so it begins... Damn, that does look solid:shock:"thumbsup" |
