Ram 2500 or a 1500
 

Im thinking on getting a new Ram. I'm looking at either a 2500 or 1500. I've got a 97 Ram already its getting restored right now. So any info would be good.

Do need to have a 2500? I have a '14 2500 Cummins

I pull a 25 foot pace enclosed trailer when I race my 4 wheelers. I would like to get a toy hauler down the road and boat ( 23-25 scarab)

Get the 2500 with the Cummins. Every full size truck Ive owned after my first 1/2 ton Chevy has been a Dodge 2500 diesel and I'll never go back to a gas in a full size truck."thumbsup"

I love my 1500 chevy, my mother's 1500 ram, but most of all my 2500 Cummins 13'. I pull around my wife's car on a 16', 2' dovetail, loaded with all our belongings needed to do what we do(travel around the US living in places for at least 13 weeks at a time). Honestly though, if you don't need a diesel, don't buy one, fuel and fuel additives, maintenance(filters alone out cost a complete fluids and filter change in a gasoline engine) and DEF are more $$ to spend. If you want the best of both worlds, Ram finally stopped putting baby bore Hemi's in there 3/4 and 1 tons HDs, go for a 6.4L HD 2500. If cash is not a worry, the 6.7L Cummins is definitely worth it.

PS, don't get the baby bed, shop around and get a long wb, you could fit two full size ATVs in my bed.

From an automotive technicians standpoints this isn't even a question.

The new 1/2 tons are basically glamorized cars that do not hold up to being worked. Meaning being plowed, towed, or loaded. If you just drive around the suburb with the kidos it may do OK for the first few years .

The 3/4 tons are genuine workhorses that are still easy to work on, parts are reasonably priced, and will hold up through the long haul even while being USED AS A TRUCK! I've worked on them when used as fleet vehicles and most make it beyond 250K on the original drivetrain with basic upkeep.

When I bought my 03 dodge 1500 with a hemi there was a 03 2500 with a Cummins right beside it. I regret not getting the 2500 every single time I pull a trailer. Doesn't even matter what's on the trailer I still wish I would have gotten the 2500. If you have the funds for the 2500, get it.
