| ![]() Does the odo have 7 places to show that many miles? I've always been amazed at the longevity of engines that do nothing but work hard everyday of their lives.

My 1990 mercedes Benz 300e has a bit over 250000, not sure how much since the odo no longer works, but other than that and the sunroof everything is still cherry on the old girl.

My 01 Ram 4x4 1500 has 250K +/- Larger than stock tires have thrown off the odometer and speedometer by 15%. Which has gotten me a ticket in the past. I got rid of a '79Yota 4x4 Hilux trail/mud truck a few years back that was pushing 375K. Man I miss that truck!!

My 1990 toyota pickup has somewhere around 260k miles. I had to swap out the gauge cluster for one with 300+k on it after mine cropped out. Just blew the head gasket, hast timing chain slap and creeps when in gear and clutch is pushed in. Other than a new clutch I have all the parts to refresh it a bit then hopefully I can sell it!

All these posts are making me feel really good about my 93 XJ. I am only at 189k right now, but I know I can get there eventually. My younger brother is about to roll over 300k on his 02 Golf TDI, he delivers pizzas in it (AND his 2011 Golf) and he puts at least 50 or 60k a year on a car. My dad just sold his 95 XJ showing 290k or so and I know the odometer didn't work the first 2 years we owned it and who knows before that. His 96 XJ is showing 220k and we just put a head gasket on it. |

Precisely. The hole causes the loss of coolant resulting in overheating...warped head, blown gasket. The Toyota I built into a buggy done this exact thing...and I know many that have. Many Toyotas have also been bought because they have been given an overinflated value because of all the "last forever" hype. ![]()

so you don't re-set the odo after a major overhaul? Just curious- what kind of mileage do you get out of the rest of the drive line before it needs a full rebuild?

My old engine had an in frame rebuild at about 850k due to lack of proper maintenance. With regular oil changes and a bit of preventative care a 60 series detroit will hit a million without issue at all. My last job picked up an old freightliner like mine that the original owner swore had never been re uilt that had 1.8 million and the way it ran I'd believe it. ![]() A manual trans is good for a million as long as a noobie isn't yanking the stick. I got a 13 speed because the old trans sucked not because there was some thing wrong withe it mechanically. Basically it was like driving a vehicle and skipping from 3rd to 5th. There was a huge hole between 8 and 9th gear and when you only have 1200 usable rpm to play with that really makes the hills your enemy. I still have the original differentials in the truck, one axle got new bearings last season but otherwise they pretty much last forever if their specs are watched so wear is accounted for and adjusted out.

A bowtie must admit that this blue oval is impressive. My 97 Z71 I bought with 8 miles recently hit 286k on the original engine. I guess I'm a walking hippie ![]() Quote:

206K On my Tj. Had to have the 4.0 rebuild at 205xxx. Cam was pretty well worn out, and the pistons had so much wear, I can't believe it never broke a piston skirt.
