samurai transfer case question

Theres no positive engagement when trying to shift into 4hi the shifter just slips back into 2wd. it goes into 4lo and neutral just fine though. im pretty new to 1:1 wheeling so if this is a glaringly obvious problem then pardon me  also if it matters its a 86

I've seen the mounts get old , weak and loosen up a little , then the shiftier hits the ring that hold the boot or the floor board itself and case this problem.

Sometimes the shifters get out of position. You can take the shifter out and use a screw driver to engage your transfer case (most times they get stuck in neutral), then re-install your shifter. There are write ups all over the net on this and some other issues that arise out of these cases.

Something else that goes bad are the shifter sheets themselves. most replace them at one time or another. Low Range Off-Road has replacements, as well as Trail tough. I mainly use Zuks Off Road http://www.zuksoffroad.com/

Myron (or MY as he is better known) is one of the best Suzuki vendors out there. If you have any questions, he can answer them. He did my wire harness when I did my 1.6 16v swap (cut it into the stock harness and it fired right up, even going to Fuel Injection from carb). If he cant advise you he will send you to someone that can.

I have a 87 TinTop with 6" SPOA, 6.5:1 transfer-case, 1.6 16v out of a 94 Sidekick, running 32" Pro-Comp MTs. I did the Dodge Neon seat swap, roll bar out of a convertible, power steering out of the Sidekick and Trail Touch bumpers front and rear (with spare swing out carrier). I have a 86 convertible that Im gonna buggy (5.0/AOD/9"D44/ Dana 20 case/ and run 38's, after I get my health in order (bad kidneys).

Check the frame side of the transfer case mount for cracks. I've had to use bungy cords and ratchet straps way too many times to count. Gears in the axle will help take the pressure off.

These are stupid simple rigs and you're gonna have a blast. I miss mine.
