I ran a detroit locker in the rear and an arb up front, always did me great and I would also uggest unless you like changing birfields get ome good ones like the long fields or better.don't worry about the stockers they will break soon enough if you are locked in the front, but you can prolong the life by not getting on it with the wheels turned too far.remember most of the parts that you are gonna abuse initially may be 20 years or so aol and were designed for little tires.

Clutch-I cannot say enough about the centerforce dual friction clutch, its expensive but darn worth it.Mine lasted through two builds and I sold it with my prerunner and it still was going strong.I would have gone through two stock clutches so it was worth the extra expense.
Front driveshaft-just go ahead and have a super long travel front shaft built,do not go cheap.once the yota starts to flex good it will drop apart with the 5" travel stock shaft, you will be surprised how much the front shaft moves in and out once the springs break in.
the driveline super store or high angle driveline are the best around

dont go with 5.79 will break use 4.88 or 5.29 or you can stay stock and put 4.70 in transfer case . other than that and you are going to have a sweet allround rig. here is a picture of my rig to give you an idea it has a 4 inch lift with 37 and a little fender triming with 5.29 gears a host of other mods.

WOW thanks alot ALL YOU GUYS for shariing info abut your rigs and all the advice!!!! As far as the stats on the first thread...Everything i listed is already on my truck. I also forgot to mention that i have a centerforce, webber carb and the two inch pipe aswell. Thanks a bunch FiremanJim for all the useful pics, suggestions and advice. Why arent the 5:79's any good?...I figured theyd be hella good being that there geared really low. I enjoy camping and wheeing and it takes some wheeling to get to good spots so id like a pretty capable trail rig but not full blown ROCKCRAWLER. Im in no position to constantly be fixing, or buying new parts. Id like to be able to hit the trails and have fun doing it!!!!...What do you think?...

The big reason is pinion size. As you go down in gearing (up numerically), the pinion size reduces because it has to have less teeth on it. Therefore, if you go up in gearing, it will be stronger. Out here in Cali, even 4.88:1s are weak on the granite. I ran the stock 4.37s in my Toy and 4.10s in Slinky. I chose the 4.10s because they were the tallest I could get for the high pinion differentials I was running.

Now what you do lose though is highway & off-road grunt because you are gearing up. The off-road part is easy because you can plop in a T-case gear set or dual transfer case. The freeway however is what it is though. So you run what your motor can handle. I had 35s and 4.37s and I noticed it chugg a bit.

Hopefully if you come out this way, we can take you up on the RUbicon for some granite style crawling.

I had the automatic stock 4:35's in mine BUT I had a VORTEC 4.3L to lug it around,I kept the w56 in my truck with the stock case there are not alot of rocks here in NW Ohio so wheel speed is a premium!!

And it was an 84 4RUNNER!!

the tires you have do look large for 33's. i would still say go larger if you can.

Why'd ya sell out anyway? You had a nice rig.

Ya sell out

I'm running a 5" spring kit from All Pro with 37" Boggers. I'm pretty pleased with the springs. The rear springs were a little stiff at first, but after some beating on them, they've loosened up nicely. I'd say they've settled about an 1" from when I first installed them. I've got an 87 X-cab,but as far as your list of mods, you got alot of the same things I got.

5spd
22R
38mm Weber
Centerforce III
Doug Thorley header
Flowmaster
Jacobs ignition

dual cases
twin sticks
full width axles
OBA
15 gallon aluminum cell
EXO
Rockstomper hysteer

and a good air freshener to help with the poop stain in the drivers seat.
