I just had a simple 4 to 1 transfer case set and on 31's, it worked really great for trails. The only thing it had trouble with was mud.

You can regear the diffs to give you better gearing, even compensate for the tire size to get your speedo accurate.

I think the easiest way is to just put a turbo on it, and call it good.

I have an '89 Samurai with 235/75 tires and went from 3.73 to 4.57 gears. Is still a slug but now the top speed dropped a good amount, the problem with regearing the transfer case is that your low range gets a lot shorter compared to the stock ratio, which sucks in situations you need some speed, like in sand dunes. I would go with 5.38 diff gears if you need some low range speed, or 4.16 transfer gears if you move slow off road

diffs are the safest place to gear down. my old zuk had 5:13s or something around there with a 4:1 tcase, which on 31s was great for wheeling but driving on the hwy 55-60 top speed with the motor wound up pretty good.

you said before anybody says drop in a 1.6 and you wished.......but curious as to why not go ahead. would be about the same price difference as dropping in R&P and honestly doesnt even take a full day.

Thanks everyone for the input and lawhorn_derrick the only thing holding me back is the lack of knowledge to do it myself. I'm kind of a noob at working on vehicles and don't know anyone who is anymore capable.
