2014 Focus wheel fitment
 

I recently bought a 2014 Focus SE hatch for the Mrs. to drive to work. It came with a new set of Continental tires that are geared more toward winter driving. The tread blocks are pretty large and spaced decently far apart. I want to save those tires for winter so I am looking at having two sets of tires for the car, a summer set and the Continentals for the winter. I have a set of 2006 Lincoln LS wheels that were taken off of a family members car when she upgraded to lighter alloys. The bolt pattern is the same (5x108) but the offset is a little different (+60 vs. +40) and the rim is 7.5" wide instead of the 6.5" stock wheel. The factory wheel is a 16" while the Lincoln is a 17". I am going to use 215/45/17 tires on the new wheels if they can be made to work. When trial fitting the new wheel, it fills out the fender nicely but the inner portion of the rim is about a fingers depth away from the strut (approx. 1.4"). This was done without a tire on the rim. I know that the tire will protrude from the wheel by at least that much. My question is, what are my options? Get different wheels with a more sensible offset? Run a small wheel spacer (not my favorite option)? What would you do if this were your wife's (or kid's, or husband's) car?

i'm about 99% sure that those wheels will work with some 235/45R17's on it, I'm running 225/45R17's on my wife's 2013 Focus SE on the factory wheels and there's a ton of room left between the wheel assembly and strut as well as the outer wheel well lip.

The problem is the offset. If they were +40's or +45's I think they would be okay, but the wheel information I found for the factory Lincoln wheel says +62. I guess they use that to fit the rwd LS as well as the awd Jaguar's. I've heard horror stories about running wheel spacers on a daily driver. I would run the 235's if the offset was right, I bet they look great!

Here is how wheel offset works:

So the stock wheels being 6" (152.4mm) means the mount is 152.4/2 + 40 = 116.2 from the wheel inner to the hub mount.

The new LS wheels being 7.5" (190.5mm) means the mount is 190.5/2 + 62 = 157.25 from the wheel inner to the hub mount. You've lost over 40mm due to offset and wheel width.

I would not run spacers, not on a Focus. I also wouldn't really sport up a Focus SE, but thats me.

I say get a different set of wheels.

Not really looking to sport it up, those are just the wheels I have on hand. It may not matter though; the car is at a ford dealer with a grenaded transmission in a 2 month old car. It has been a PITA trying to get this thing fixed. I guess I'll see if the car gets fixed or what happens next.
