Same method as street driving, in 4 lo though you likely won't even need to do anything but let they clutch out due to the ratio.

Stall all the time until you get the feel of your rig.

In my 94 Cherokee i had a bicycle brake lever on my shifter attached to a cable from my throttle plate of course. Made crawling a breeze. Going slow on a long desert trail you could adjust the nut on the Brake Lever for an extra couple hundred RPM for cruise control. Also made winching 1000x easier.

Bypass the clutch interlock so you can start the jeep with the clutch out. This way on hill just put it in first and turn the key to get going.

from a stop on a uphill i let my clutch out until the motor starts bogging. at that point it will hold itself in place long enough to take my foot from the brake to the gas pedal. i do the same thing whenever starting at an up hill.

it takes practice but people will think your a bad ass when they realize you drive a manual after a day of wheeling and they didnt even notice. heres my 94 4.0L its a little bigger now and on 35's

Lower ratio transfer case gears are a must if you wheel frequently and change the abilities off highway completely. Still takes work and the auto guys still hate you but the control, pleasure and reward from driving I feel is far greater than a slush box. It's all about releasing the clutch just right heh. You can slip the clutch occasionally if you need to get out of a obstacle as long as it's not every 10 feet.

How big of a lift did you do in order to fit 35s and how does it do over all with 35s?

im running 4in rusty's lift with 1in boom shackles. i am going to do a 1.25in body lift for more clearance and to do a tummy tuck in the future. im running factory 3.73 gearing and its fine for around town and on the highway. for some hills i need to downshift to keep my speed but not too bad. i am also running a SYE. you will need to work on your axles some. i have an 8.8 in the rear and RCV shafts in the front. front D30 will be getting sleeved and trussed in the future. if you run an 8.8 you will not get away with a 4in lift with a transfer case drop. you will have to get an SYE and custom shaft.

ok thanks. I thought about doing 35s but the recommended tires size is 33s. That is from rough country. I am also doing a 1.25 body lift. I also need to have room for flexing so I will probably get 33s.

start saving up for an 8.8 swap, anything larger then factory tires turns your Dana 35 into a ticking time bomb

You will need proper gearing, and practice. I wheel a 1985 4 runner with 5.38 r/p gears and 4.7 transfer case gears. dont have to use the clutch that much. plus I practiced ALOT.

I think I will go with 33s. I did a little reading and most everything I have read was practice and practice. I was hopping to do a little off roading yet this year when it is out back together.

A slightly fast idle speed may aid a bit with starting up hill . buys time to switch pedals. I've also practiced working the gas and brake simultaneously with my right heel/ toe. This prevents roll backs. So let off the brake when it starts pulling.
