Default 98 ranger, 4 inch lift, and a cleveland....

figured id post this here since the ranger forums are ghost towns..

but I need axle help. im currently talking to strange engineering about building a 9 inch for me.

should I put a 5.43 gearset in it?

id be running a 32 inch tall tire on a 14 inch rim. tall tire tall gear right?

im used to my dads small tire mustang so, need just some quick advice.

For reference, mine is a 2010 FX4 with a 2" lift, 4.0L engine

5.43 is pretty tall, even for a 32". Depends what you want to do and how hp/torque your engine puts out though.

I don't crawl my Ranger or do anything more hardcore then light-moderate wheeling but 4.10's work really nicely and I'm running 31's (well, 265/75-16's but pretty much the same thing)...

Did you really mean 14" rims? How do you get any brakes in there!?

4:10's would be perfect, I ran 4:10's in my '97 with 32" tires. I wouldn't go any taller than a 4:10. I ran 4:56's in my '85 on 33's with a 5.0, but I didn't have overdrive, was sucky trying to drive it on the highway.

I meant 14 inch wide.

and this wont see the highway.

5.43 gears would get me down the track pretty fast for 650 hp ranger.

and that being said, im not going for top end speed in the long distance.

4.10 wakes up a lot of stock mustangs and what not. but I think since my dads mustang went 9.80 in the 1/4 on 28 inch tall slicks with 4.56 rear end. he talked about going to a 5.13? for his 8.8 he has.

just wondering if I should jump the gun to get the acceleration I want in the 1/4 to get this heavy truck moving.

So it's a 650hp drag truck basically? Bad-ass. I need pics!

Sounds like 5.13's might be a good option but I'd think 4.56 is probably adequate. Your original post mentions 5.43's though, is that a typo? I'm not a huge gear head but I've never heard of that ratio..

5.43 is not a typo. strange engineering has a set for 9 inch (ford) rear ends.

drag truck??? I guess. to most people they will view it that way. its gonna be my daily. 650hp is the fun number.

I drive on smiles per gallon. I don't care how many mpg it gets.

the way I drive, it might get 6mpgs. or 8.

really that interested in seeing pictures of a trashy ranger???
