I got the roof put on and more parts--its really looking like something with every step. So the time had come to fire it off. I threw some gas in it, fuel pump did its 2 second prime and nothing-grrrrrr. I could not hear the pump run while cranking and the check engine lamp was not coming on. So I hooked up the scanner and no crank rpm-hmmmm... So I did a quick basic check and found no voltage(12v) at the crank or cam sensor. I ran those 2 sensors off one fuse. So now I had to dig into the harness and I don't know how the hell I did it but somehow I got one power circuit mis-directed(ecm was supposed to have 2 fused circuits one B+_ and IGN B+). Well I had 3 circuits and the cam/crank simply wired togther-oooffffff... Can't believe I did it but I fixed that up. Now onto the ses lamp the ecm ground command was there and pulled the dash top--well I totally spaced the fact it being led and got the circuit backwards--fixed that and ses lamp works. So I cranked it over and it spit/popped. Well when I had the motor out prior to painting well I had spaced off making sure the distributor was correctly indexed. Well guess what it was off and the damn crank pulley has 2 marks. Well I got it corrected and the damn thing fired right off... |

So I got it fired off but I had no coolant in it yet because there was one thing I needed to try and figure out. So the vcm I have is also used with the 7.4 truck/suburban. Well one neat thing about that is the fact the 7.4 has an aux. fan thats vcm controlled and when I had the vcm re flashed he had enabled that system. Well it took some digging to figure out the correct terminal and added that to the system to the fan relay. But I needed to figure out if I could enable the vcm to control the fan before filling the cooling system because if it didn't I would need to add a control switch in the passenger head. Well it took a number of shots but finally got the right resistance of 229 degrees and the fan came on. Its programmed to come on at 210 and off at 200 which is nice for the heater.

So I had one open 12v circuit at the constant 12v fuse assy so I chose to hardwire the battery tender connector (easy access just in front of the passenger shock tower) and I finished off fitting the electrical center lid.

So it was time to drag out the dual charging setup that I built and charge them shocks--yes!!! So once charged I filled the cooling system with coolant (no leaks) and ran it hot--the fan operation is perfect. I gotta say that radiator is pretty damn efficient. On my old rig the fan would run for like a lil over a minute and this time it runs for like 20 seconds--and you can watch the temp just drop rapidly.. I also filled the tranny (no leaks) and both diffs... |

So one thing I still needed to address was the air filter. I had done some measurements and took a stab and ordered an air filter and some material to build the inlet pipe. Well I am still amazed I pulled it off. I know hot air is not the best for inlet air but I really had no choice. One thing I did do was build a shield for under the filter to keep direct heat off the filter. But I think it will work good and I was happy to get that taken care off.... That only leaves one thing with any amount of work left and that was the hood which is coming up very very soon.

So my buddy matt stopped by and helped my load both winches with rope (rear winch switch is backwards---grrrr,lol).. I absolutely HATE the hooks on the ends and will be cutting them off and going with a D-ring thimble (probably factor 55 prolines)..

I got the shocks adjusted to very close to ride height. I know they are still new and very stiff so I will be playing with pressures for a little while..

So I got the hood painted and setup and on the rig. I wasn't 100% happy with how it turned out but it was better than I was expecting. Regardless of how it turned out I was pretty stoked at this point.
