Hey guys - heres an "Update" for all those who were interested - I gave the "new" sammy body the same "rust and scratch" paint treatment as I did with the "Ultimate K-10" Chevy buildup, (which is ALL painted on the inside).

Then It was time to lay some paint down on the outside.. ( SO when it rolls, OR drags the sides down the rocks, the red paint will scrape off exposing the "rust and scratches" )

Then the final touch of "semi-flat" black on the roof.

I remember finding this picture of a real 1:1 Samurai way back in the day ,and just thought it was SO DAMN cool looking..!! It was the inspiration for this second "transformation" Heres the 1:1 below..

Heres the "latest" version of the "Slickrock Samurai"

Now it was time to go play on the ROCKS ( what this thing was MADE for..!! )

I ended up throttling out of this situation and the front end came crashing down into the rock pile, and we had our first casualty of the day, the custom front bumper..!

Brought it back in and fixed the bumper, so all is well now - I've still got to make an interior, rear roll cage, and add a few more details - I've also got MORE parts coming in the mail I LOVE how well this thing wheels, its SO realistic..!!

where did you get the spacers for the chassis. They look about three inches long?

Spacers for the chassis...?? Well IF you mean the actual black rod-cross braces that run left to right between the chassis rails, I originally stole them from an old Bolink "Digger" VW Bug kit I had. The braces themselves are 2 1/2" long. The rest of the aluminum cross braces, I made by hand.

LOL- Thanks, Yeah-this things NEVER had a problem in the flexing department.. In fact I wrecked the front bumper again the other night because the front tires were stuffed into the wheel wells tight and caught the bumper ends with the tires and they tore right off.. I've actually changed out the wheels and tires that were just previously posted, in favor of another set coming in the mail..!! I've also started on mounting up the "interior"..

Allright- small update on the Sammy- It was time to start thinkin about re-installing the rear soft top section ( winter IS right around the corner you know..) Heres some trial fitting before paint.

Once painted ( on BOTH the inside AND outside) I installed some lexan tabs on the insides of the roof, and they simply slide down inside the body shell where it was originally cut off. ( I then used small pieces of duct tape to hold the lexan tabs to the actual sammy body) , and ta-da, removeable soft top..!!

Heres a few wheelin' pics with the "new" roof painted and installed . I also changed my mind on the black scx-10 wheels and put the "old" sneakers back on until the NEW ones I've ordered arrive in the mail..!

Oh Boy- allready scratchin' up that fresh paint on those fender flares..!!!

3-2-1...Lift OFF..!!!

I've already started some interior work too. ( check the seats installed in the above pic..) I also bent up and installed an inner aluminum rollcage this afternoon as well. More to come soon- stay tuned

Rolling chassis...

And body installed....

Awesome job on this build. It makes me want to build a "smaller" scaler. Your attention to detail really stands out

Hey Bob- I actually robbed them from an OLD CJ-7 body I have had for ages. It just so happened they were a PERFECT fit.. Thats where I stole the dash from too.. And YEAH It felt just like old times drilling and tapping aluminum rod again..!! WOW- I can't believe how long ago that was already..!!
