Default Project Back Woods Beater Chevy

ok guys and gals...this will be a long and slow build to say the least. I got a body off of ebay really cheap and ive been wanting to do this for a while.

This will be my first scale build.
The plan for this rig will be something that i can drive whereever and i wont care too much about the paint....basically a normal trail rig like majority of you have. (i am planning 2 other builds that won't be wheeled very hard)

"Parts list"
clod body
bowtie grill and tailgate
drop bed
working tailgate or no tailgate with baja style spare
tlt axles
custom frame
winch
r2 w/ front disconnect
and lots more to come

now onto the pics...no real body work done, just cleaned out a plugged body detail on the drivers side on the hood.

and here is a spare bed that i also got on e-bay that i will use t practice my styrene skills on

Even getting just the body is a good start. With some rigs thats what takes the most time. I know my upcoming build's body is going to be a lot of work. Like rocpede said, just take your time and dont rush anything for a scale build. You will be happier with the end result.

oh yeah.. i will def take my time....ive done so much rc research its not funny...i will be measuring everything like 5 times before i cut....ive spent the last few days just trying to decide where EXACTLY to cut the tailgate to make it work and look real...i also have to go take pics sometime of my dads first truck (same style, his friend owns it) (it will be one of the previously mentioned, future project, lighter trail rigs)...just so i get the tailgate detail as close as possible...

oh, and i just bought another clod body so now i have a total of three full and one bed...lol either the new one or this one might be sold...but i might end up keeping it to do a crewcab dually that will be started way long from now...

ok.. so a little bit of back tracking before i go forward...
i got my third full clod body on friday and it is in a little bit worse condidion than the original "beater" body i had planed... so i am going to use the latest body instead, the same grill from the previous body, and im still undecided if im going to use the dark tailgate or the original red...prob stick with the darker one....no progress yet...

Nice, are you going to be doing bodywork on the hood to cover up where the scoop stuck out from it?

yes i will be filling in the hood on this truck and the two other clod bodied scalers i have planed.....right now i have (body wise)
3 clods
1 clod bed
1 blackfoot
1 earnhardt silverado
1 lexan bushwacker
1 metal (tonka i think)

I still want
1 clod for a crew cab dually
1 earnhardt silverado for a dually

Ok, so i have a little bit of an update, instead of going with a custom chassis for this build, i wanted to get it going. So i ended up buying a scx10 that will be the base for this build. So i still dont have any bodywork done yet because ive had too much fun playing around with the truck as is. Im hoping to get started on the bodywork before summer ends and possibly even get the body finished before school starts up. I will be either making tube bumpers for it or buying the HBZ ones depending on when they come out, the price, and how they look with the clod.
Well onto the pics of the truck...just yesterday i put a bedliner in and the electronics have been installed for about a week or two.

im kind of undecided right now...i think that i might do blue...or maybe just primered...either way, it is going to have a bedliner using some rustolium textured black spray paint

ok well i thought that i got enough of the bodywork done for an update so here it is.

well i had a spare tail gate laying around so i decided to use it as a test of how easy it is to cut styrene with thread and also to get a good idea of where to cut for a working tailgate...it went smothly
Click the image to open in full size.

next up, i used the string method again to cut out the bed which was a real pain so when i cut out the blower hole, i used an exacto by scoring it lots of times...i only had a little mess-up on the blower hole b/c i was getting impaitent.
Click the image to open in full size.

and finally, i took the tail gate that im going to use and cut it. there was only one minor issue with this as well, the rollpan was cracked from the previous owner and it broke in two....but nothing a little glue wont fix and acetone with styrere wont strengthen
Click the image to open in full size.
the last bit of cutting that i have to do now is cutting the sunroof, but that has to wait til my dad finds the dremel... for my other two clod builds, i will be using the dremel to cut the bed, blower hole, and sunroof because the cutts will all be covered up when finished

btw this is my first time working with styrene... lol
