Default Loco FJ-01

This is my first CC-01 build, it is inspired by seeing locals like Charlie, IWARC and helbentrodder bash their capable little rigs and the UTRCRC scale adventure series.

The body will come from my now defunct Loco FJ build that lost its' axles to my 1.9 Campbell XRRA rockracer.

Was lucky to get a YJ Wrangler CC-01 before they offically went disco'd, love the packaging that Tamiya does for hard bodies

Started of the build and just had to install ball bearings, got a bunch of all the weird sizes now for my collection...

When I assembled the transmission and rear end I used some nice grease from Fast Eddie

I assembled the rest of the chassis per the directions but was not impressed with the llink set up, the lowers were just super flexy and shouck mount was counter active...weird

So I decided to fab up all kind of aluminun goodies to fix that and a couple other issues...

With the axle all assembled...

...I realized that the longer WB position makes the rear drive shaft just way too long.

To deal with that I decided to make a pilot bearing from a TLT knuckle, some aluminum box, a 5mm R2 trans output shaft cast-off and some pede shafts, also some metal Axial yokes.

All assembled with MRC shocks...

nice fab work.
although it looks like your shock mount is same as original. What did you do differently? is it just that its got its own bracket now?
Also, the peices connecting the short and long wb link mount locations (lowers to chassis), is the purpose of those to act as a skid? if so, brilliant!
Nice work on the driveshaft too.
I'm also using MRC shocks and they're about the same length but narrower overall so look more scale.

When I assembled the front suspension I notched the axles-C for more travel and to mount the MRC shocks up front I made a small derin block to give them more preload.

I also cut the front lower section of the chassis for better approach and then glued a piece of 80thou black styrene to the gaping hole

Pantablo, to answer your question... At first I made those Al. shock brackets to run the shocks in the stock location but since the MRCs are softer than stock I had to flip the brackets around 180 deg ...

...you can also see the front Al. skid that came off the Loco FJ (no mod required)

Default good work

I agree, excellent fabrication work. Since you have the fab skills, will you be fabbing up an aluminum steering crank replacement? The driveshaft work is outstanding, and so scale.

I really like what you did on the rear, I tried to 3 link mine with no luck, Are you willing to fab another 4 link set and sell it to me? What body are you running?
Thanks James

What rods did you use to make the links or is it all custom?

I didn't see this earlier but yes you are correct those little brackets acts as skids to keep from hangin up on the lower rod ends.

Couple quick pics of the 1.5" wheels and tires that i picked up

Here is the stance, it sits pretty good with the MRC shocks and the black springs in front and the silver ones in the rear

articulation is pretty nice for a CC-01, i think i'll like this little rig...

Something cool i was working on is a Reign scale antena turned into a whip. First I shortened the antenna to 8 inches, then I wrapped some 24AWG copper wire around it

last i applied some white 1/16" shrink tubing and a small red cap

came out pretty nice, functional too

slapped a winch mount on it using 64thou aluminum sheet

quick mock of the body to make some mounts, rear is sitting a littlr high here but there is no battery or elctronics in it yet

will look good with some bumpers on there...

Default nice winch

Nice work Eric - the winch looks great. We should get all of the NBRCC CC-01s together and do a trail run! Put some scratches in that chassis

on your fab skills. Nice & Clean. What are the specs on the aluminum you are using for the parts you fab'd? Thickness, finish, place of purchase, etc. Also, what are you using to cut and bend those piece so cleanly? Thanks.

thanks man

The aluminum sheet I usually use is 0.064" thick from K&S:

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...P?I=LXR912&P=8

for smaller brackets and stuff I use the 0.032" thick varity:

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXR911&P=SM

I cut the sheet with my band saw and finish the edges with a belt sander. I drill the holes with a drill press and then bend it using my bench vice. Normlly I finish all my aluminum stuff with a bead blaster for that matte satin look.
