Here's the video from Sunday's run. The Jeep's maiden voyage! Sorry for the lack of music. Youtube muted it so I reloaded it with no music at all. Sorry, I've put direct youtube links here before, but for some reason it's not working now. No idea why. Last edited by Tommy R; 11-24-2009 at 06:34 AM. |

Here it is....battered and abused and needing some TLC after Sunday's thrashing. And here it is with its new shoes.... RC4WD 1.55 Rock Stompers. The wheels are currently disassembled and receiving their first coats of satin black paint. FYI, these wheels are nearly a press fit onto the Axial CVDs I'm running. Very, very tight fit. In the pic, they don't have any foam in them. They don't come with any air holes so they're actually functioning like a regular pneumatic tire. I may actually give it a try like this. It's easy enough to add foams later on, if need be. |

Here's some pics with one wheel sorta dry ;) and mounted up. I like it... But I'm still not sure the best way to tighten the wheel nut. Last edited by Tommy R; 11-24-2009 at 09:40 PM. |

I was concerned about these new 1.55" tires, to be honest. The problem is that the sidewalls don't conform too easily (which can limit forward bite), but the tall sidewalls make any sidehilling very challenging because they flop over so easily. I thought the included foams were way too tall and stiff so I didn't use them at all. Instead of using full height memory foams (the normal choice), I decided to use some shorter regular foams. My hope was that they would provide reasonable lateral support, but allow enough sidewall wrap to grip on the climbs. It still needs tweaking, but overall it's pretty encouraging... I should also add I'm now running weight in the front wheels (3.25 oz. in each) and I stretched the front axle another 1/8" or so. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pcx4ZjIvRnE Maybe I should remove this from the 1.9 forum now, huh? |

Got sick and tired of being able to see through the rear fender wells and with a comp coming up next week, I decided to fab up some fender liners. They're made from .040" (I believe) styrene and painted with bedliner. Next items on the list: - Repair wiring on 3Racing winch - Fab a d-ring and mount for the rear bumper - Waterproof the electronics - Install rock lights - Paint the control arms - And maybe repaint the entire Jeep since it's looking pretty rough already! |

What did you do for the rear bumper/tire carrier? Awesome build! |

For the bumper, I started with some 1"x1/2" rectangular tubing 1/16" wall, that I ordered online. I took my dremel to it and what you see is what you get. ;) I then just bent some 1/16" thick metal strips to mount it to the chassis. Like I said, I may not make a tire carrier, but at the very least I'll build some sort of rack on the back for an ice chest, Hi-Lift, recovery strap, etc. I also am in the process of making a d-ring/mount for the rear bumper. | |
