First attempt SWB Jeep

Actually first attempt at a lot of things
CMS, forward motor mount, 1.55 tires, transfer case, cantilever shocks...etc, the list is long
But that’s just me...

I’ve had this about 8 months now
And my inspiration for trying a true scale (or as close as I can come to it)

I did a Tamiya YJ in that exact color scheme.

Sweet ride, that’s funny, I want a rack for the 1-1 ... But not for the tribute build, might be a bit top heavy.

Got to ask, where and what color did you find...damn it, I looked everywhere and that looks great

That is the actual Jeep basecoat color code PJC, Light Khaki Metallic. I ordered it from Automotive Touchup

The top took alot of trial and error to get the right Dark Khaki. After several different spray cans, I finally settled on this color, Rustoleum Semi Gloss Anodized Bronze #7754. It seems to be the closest and looks great. I sprayed lite shots from a long distance to have the paint start to partially dry before it layed down on the roof, which gave it a realistic textured look. The basecoat was sprayed with clear and allowed to cure before the top was done.

That is a nice full size! I have the exact same one in the unlimited model. This build should turn out good!

I can’t get over how good your color looks....of course they don’t make a rattle can with that color and that’s my limitation...I have no spray set up.
Mines painted already....close, but not nearly as good as yours. Your wheels are a closer match to mine also...real nice job sir

I actually gave up on trying to make it look like the 1-1 ....there’s some things I want to change on the 1-1. So I made the build to be close to what I wanted.

I have to say...we had about a foot or so of snow a month or so ago... I haven’t had so much fun driving in a long time

Time for some technical info

This was not an easy build for me. As mentioned it was a first for many things.
Different wheel base 10.6”
Skeleton chassis GCM
GCM transfer case
Rc4wd drive shafts (2) with one MIP that was short enough finding metal shafts was a challenge
Scx10 tranny, all metal gears
AR44 SSD axles, C-Hubs, knuckles
Dinky cantilever set up in the rear
3.5” BigBores in the front
SSD wheels wrapped in 1.55 pit bulls
Tekin FXR
HH 27t w/1300mah 3s
CMS Solar 772

Custom links, body mount, panhard mount....this build is almost done and has been about 8 months in the making.
Biggest challenge for me was the CMS and removing the bump steer....oh and finding short enough drive shafts in metal with a pin and not a grub screw.
I love to build and i’m Up for the challenge

Sounds like all the essentials for a very nice build.... FYI if you have a local NAPA they can order the Jeep factory paint in a spray can for you... Look forward to seeing some of this build sir...

Man, you’ve been a great help already Mr. Clip when I was looking for drive shafts...criminy I’m headed to Napa...not showing any pictures until I tear this down and re-paint

This panhard setup ought to be a something separate maybe...believe me when I say I tried all the proper (so everyone said and wrote) about the length being the same and parallel. After jawing with a local crawling friend, he suggested this and BAM this took ALL my bump steer away, and not to mention the torque twist.

I’ll try this out when I get to crawl next

This is all rattle can painted. No airbrush setup. I have ordered several different cans of spray since then, along with their clear coat and primer. It's pricey but you get what you pay for, in long run.

Hey Cobra...if I remember correctly it is an Rc4wd...a short one. I remember looking around a lot to get one that small with holes for pins instead of grub screws.
I’d have to look and see if I bought 2 actually, I’m doing another build...a D90 this time and using the same chassis set up ... I love it
