Re: BlueBronco budget build very nice work on the axial trans with trasefercase. Ive been wanting to do that for awhile now, but couldnt figure out how too. Im not a ford fan but that bronco looks great. "thumbsup" J. |

Re: BlueBronco budget build More styrene, more glue, lots of measuring, eyeballing, taking it all apart and tryin over last night got me to this point. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psdc7c9795.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psc49fc9ea.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psdd6c6b6f.jpg Got the firewall roughed in inside and out to clear the trans, spur and pinion. I still need to smooth some stuff out and then itll be good. It clears everything juuuuust barely at the moment but it does clear. I also trimmed the rear "bed" walls due to them bein about 1/4" too tall (which was annoying). Ide like to move on to smoothing it all up, sealing it (shoe goo for strength) and then look at putting a dash together. Then I gotta figure out what I wanna do to mount it all together with the body/frame. Matt |

Re: BlueBronco budget build Good to hear man!!! Sent these pics to a couple people this weekend...figured Ide share em here this morning. I think Ive lost my mind. Started small http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psdd844261.jpg And then spread like crazy http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psc5657bc4.jpg I did alot of work this weekend sealing up the rear tub, getting it ready to mate with the rear fenders and tailgate and putting together some LEDs in the rear before i seal it all up. While waiting for some of that to dry I got to work on the dashboard in an attempt to try and get this thing ready for finishing touches and paint. What a mess. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psffbe1089.jpg Heres the only shot I got of the dash. I have made some progress since this shot but forgot to snap a pic. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps60a3a096.jpg Matt |
Re: BlueBronco budget build I have been playing around with doing this to the enclosed body i got for mine. with out the whole splitting it all up. was thinking about making the top removable though. |
Re: BlueBronco budget build Another evening, another little bit of progress LOL. I found some slightly larger aluminum tubing the other day while on a Styrene run so I put together some tips for the Bronco. I wasnt super happy with the size of the other tubing I was using so this is perfect. I dont like flashy exhaust tips so Ill keep it looking like your standard exhaust pipe. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psb75cdfef.jpg Heres a shot of the complete exhaust. Just a couple tweaks here and there when the body comes together and Itll be set. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps16f2d376.jpg FINALLY got the parts in I needed (after 2 weeks of waiting for USPS to walk them to me from AZ) to complete the stub shaft between the trans and transfer. I brazed it together with safety silv and then tried my damndest to get it to break and its held up so far. Only trail abuse will tell if itll hold but Im happy for now. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps32548b93.jpg She's a runner! Runs pretty decent too. Now Ive got it pretty much 100% mechanically running, just need to get the body/tub together and mounted then I can start running electronics a little better. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psaa7ad814.jpg I also got some work done on the dash and tub. I added alot of silly little details to the underside of the tub just because. Ive got to figure out how I plan to mount it to the frame and then smooth some stuff out, paint it and move on. As for the dash, I got everything where I want it and just need to paint it so I can add final details then attach it to the tub later. I also had a fun idea for my lighting setup but more on that later! LEDs are finished gluing into the rear body panels so now I can move on to attaching it to the tub and priming and painting it all! Matt |
Re: BlueBronco budget build I see you chose to mount the t-case as so you will have an overdriven frontend |

Re: BlueBronco budget build Even with a tf2 or g2 trans and coupling, it'd still look more like a divorced case setup than a stock 1:1 would look. Bout the only way to get the stock look would be to runa fracture v8, then your front chunk would be on the wrong side for a stock 1:1 ford Just my $0.02"thumbsup" |
Re: BlueBronco budget build True, would look closer than what Ive got but not enough to make it worth foolin with so for now, divorced with a custom skid it is! Matt |
Re: BlueBronco budget build Last night was spent waiting for paint and ShoeGoo to dry mostly so I didnt get much of anything done. I got the tub in primer and ready for the rear panels to go on http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psd28d128b.jpg I also went ahead and primed/painted the dash to get an idea on what Im lookin at and also allow me to start detailing it. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps1b99f9ec.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...pscd462ec1.jpg Im debating on whether I want to keep it fresh and clean or weather it a bit as if the paint job is old. I will probably repaint the outside panels so it will look shiny and new for a bit but when the abuse catches up I would like the interior to match. Ill figure it out lol. I was also workin on the trans and transfer shifters and wasnt super happy with the axial parts so I started making my own. I then accidentally knocked my transfer shifter (modded axial piece) down the drain (dont ask, it was a hitch hiker when taking pics of the tub and I didnt realized it till it was gone LOL) which made me mad but now forces me to make my own which I shoulda done in the first place. Slowly but surely its starting to come together! Matt |
Re: BlueBronco budget build Looks real good man, I like it a lot. I've been following this one for a long time, and damn, she's had a rough life haha What are you using for the styrene joints, shoe-goo and a bonding agent (Tenax or similar)? |
Re: BlueBronco budget build Tenax mostly and shoegoo once its all together in certain areas for extra strength where it might need it. Works really well so far! Matt |
Re: BlueBronco budget build Between gettin the house ready for Christmas with the Family and shopping, spending time with everyone AND bein sick, I havnt had much time to work on the Bronco which is a slight bummer lol. I did get the dash sorted out and lookin pretty decent tho! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps785eee38.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps3a47a3c3.jpg Been foolin with some shift levers and am tryin to figure out how I wanna make boots for them, then I can toss them on, add some small details here and there and get ready to glue the tub together!!! Merry Christmas everyone, hope yall have a great time with those you love and care for! Matt |
Re: BlueBronco budget build Very nice job with the dash"thumbsup", wish I had the motivation to work on mine  |
Re: BlueBronco budget build Shoot, yours and LoneRanger's 1.55 builds ARE my motivation to take this rig to the next level! I have untold number of pics of your rig printed off to use as reference and help keep me on track! Matt |
Re: BlueBronco budget build Totally off the hook dude. Can't wait for more progress... |
Re: BlueBronco budget build Got a little work on the dash done, gonna show off one of a few little tricks that I thought of...tinkered with then said "Hell...why NOT!?!?" In 1:1 world, I would have moved the light switch down to where the dual tank switch is but in scale terms, this was the best place I could put this and be able to get at it easily. Lights Off http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psfdbeacae.jpg Lights On http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps3f41c8da.jpg Heres how I did it. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps85525a61.jpg Put a panel behind the dash for the switch to mount to, drilled the switch for the nail to go through, cut the nail to length and groved it to grab the switch and then JBwelded it together. All I need to do now is finish up the lighting on the body and then solder it all together. Im thinkin I will put the battery to run the lights behind the other side of the dash and make the dash removeable for easy access. Im excited to see it all in action when its all together! I also started completely over on my transmission shifter and should have it done shortly. Ide like to move on to the front fenders of the inner tub and get the rear body mounted soon so I can paint it. After all that I can finally have some fun adding little details but I dont wanna rush just yet. Matt |
Re: BlueBronco budget build Awesome switch! "thumbsup" ...and rest of truck! haha |
Re: BlueBronco budget build Matt, you are a legend... "thumbsup" |
Re: BlueBronco budget build Noooooo way, especially not compared to some of the amazing talent floating around these parts, but I do love to tinker and see what I can and cannot get away with! Havin fun too which is good...and I imagine Ill have even MORE fun seein how much abuse all this work can stand up to! Matt |
Re: BlueBronco budget build Wow, that light switch idea is a pretty good one, nice job "thumbsup" |
Re: BlueBronco budget build While on the phone with Comcast last night I had just enough time to put together some u bolts for the rear axles. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps024f15fc.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps8ca5d4d9.jpg Pictures turned out poor but you get the idea. They are ugly and exactly what I wanted. I made em outta steel RC plane rod and some tiny (4mm) nuts...tehee. One of my nuts dropped (tehehee) and I lost it dangit so Im missin a nut (teeheeee) but Ill find it one day. I plan on taking it all apart one day and smoothing out the RC4WD leaf mounts so they look a little better but for now Im done. I also got the shifters all finished up and ready to go and re-mounted the rear panels to the tub after realizing they were a little off. Gonna finish off the rear tub, add some front inner fenders then itll be on to paint and figuring out how to mount it all. Matt |
|
Re: BlueBronco budget build Thanks, you too!!! Got the rear tub together with the body panels! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps43a358c0.jpg Fit together surprisingly well considering its ME making it happen lol. I got the exhaust tweaked where I want it and only need a couple small tweaks here and there, toss together some panels to bridge the gap between the panels and tub up top and then call it good http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps12d2d66a.jpg Shoot, even the front lines up really well. In this pic its just tossed on for kicks. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psfcad765c.jpg I was working on gettin the dash section of the interior tub trimmed to allow the front end to come down a hair so the doors will line up better and pulled an idiot move with my xacto. The entire blade in my thumb down to the handle = end of my night. Idiot. And technically I did go back in and glue the part that broke off allowing the knife to enter my thumb back on lol. Tonight Ill get that together and start on some inner fenders. Matt |
Re: BlueBronco budget build Looks great buddy, are you going to strengthen the windscreen with some sort of steel roll cage? |
Re: BlueBronco budget build The windshield will be strengthened with some styrene and then a simple rollbar will be put in place as well. Hopefully itll be enough to keep it together for a while LOL. I plan to strengthen the top with styrene as well and then the simple roll bar will help when the top is off when it rolls. Thats the thought at the moment at least. Matt |
Re: BlueBronco budget build It has been very cool to watch your progress with this truck over the last few years. It has gone from a total stocker to a totaly custom 1 off rig- I know everyone who has kept up with this thread has watched first hand your modeling skills grow by leaps and bounds. Hats off to you! "thumbsup" L.R. 8) |
Re: BlueBronco budget build Thanks a ton, I've sat and watched so many amazing builds go on and finally decided to try my hand and what better rig than the Bronco! I dabbled in some stuff with the Mule and Courier but the Bronco has always been the rig I've wanted to own in 1:1 so its time to make it exactly what I would own. More work done tonight, far less stabbing myself and more progress although not much I'll take it! Pics later if I can. Matt |
Re: BlueBronco budget build Well...I said I snag some pics of last night's progress but I lied. I capped off the empty section between the tub and rear panels, but its not super clean and Im not 100% happy with it. Im gonna try to file it down a bit more then Ill snap some shots. I also figured out how I wanna mount the top whenever I run it and needed to finish up some things before I could get good shots. Im also thinkin about NOT painting the body panels. I know it sounds kinda silly to do all this work and NOT paint it up nice...but I remember when I first built the Bronco how I couldnt wait to get some trail rash cause she was too shiney. Ive always wanted a dingy, patina-ed, faded Bronco in 1:1. One thats not super rough, but not shiney and pretty, yet sexy in its own way. I think Ill do some work here and there but leave it a little rough around the edges in some places as well. Then again, I may be forced to paint it afterall to make sure everything matches. ANYways, first things first, gotta get the interior finished up before I can even think about paint. Matt |
Re: BlueBronco budget build Got quite a bit done this weekend and its actually starting to come together!!! Finished up covering the dead space between the tub and upper fenders. I also came up with a way to mount the top whenever I might wanna run it that should help hold it all together nicely http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psa2c70bc7.jpg I then made some little caps to cover the holes while the top is off. How long till I loose em and say screw it and never run em again...first ride is my bet. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps1c6e53fb.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps806d5147.jpg This is an idea of how Ill attach the top. I probably wont crush the ends but itll be somethin similar. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...pse106c386.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps74199d95.jpg I then moved on and roughed in some inner fenders. Im not gonna detail the engine bay at the moment cause the hood will stay fixed for now. I need to get further into the build to figure out a way to keep the windshield frame secure when the hood is gone and dont wanna mess with it just yet. Im thinkin when I get the cage build Ill attach it to it but for now...this will do. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps05b9a15b.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps0dc2ff1b.jpg Holding the front clip on for now to show it fits and everything seems to line up nicely!!! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psa47ac0e8.jpg After that I finally moved on to mounting the rear tub. I bend up some steel mounting tabs for the front and brazed a nut to each one. In the rear (no pic yet) I just drilled one of the plastic SCX10 crossmembers and JBwelded a couple nuts to it. I then use the shocks up front to secure the inner fender section for a total of 6 screws holding it together. Seems pretty solid so far! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps2db3fca7.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psc5e9397e.jpg PAINT! The interior tub looks 100 times better now to me. Still has some rough areas but Ill prolly mask em with weathering of some sort. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psc3362783.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps08851db9.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psb0a288d6.jpg Thats it for now, gonna get the electronics all settled in then glue the front to the tub. Been considering tryin to velcro it to the tub for now just so I can have easy access to the electronics till I make the hood open. Gonna eyeball it later and see what I come up with. Matt |
Re: BlueBronco budget build Very nicely done!!!! I will use your work as an example to follow when I build my interiors soon. Cheers H2Micr0 |
Re: BlueBronco budget build Thanks for the kind words! Its been fun...and trying but only because Im learning as I go. Have fun with it and dont be afraid to completely destroy what you built and start over at some point lol I got the dash put together and attached with ShoeGoo last night but forgot to get a pic. I did it this way so I could remove it if the light switch ever went out and replace it. I had to do some touchup painting here and there but hopefully the paint will be good and dry soon and I wont have to worry about scratching it so easy lol. Gonna look at putting some scale touches and detail work in and then try to figure out how I wanna do my cage. Matt |
Re: BlueBronco budget build Dash together and attached, fits like a glove!!! Also got my shifters in as well. Went ahead and added some steel panels to allow the transfer case shifters some clearance. Made sure to toss some primer on my welds to try and cut the chances of rust down. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps47f0a0f2.jpg Im not 100% happy with the trans shifter just yet and will probably end up moving it back some on its own. Originally they were gonna be closer to the dash but I didnt like that either. I made everything there from styrene and nails. I made the shift boots from styrene and painted them with Plastidip to give them a rubber look and then used Epoxy to make the shifter handles on the transfer case shifters. I used an old rod end ball that I sanded to shape and some shrink wrap for the trans shifter to make it look like a stock shifter. I also realized in modding the rear wheel wells to clear the tires I didnt leave room for the rear tank filler neck so I tossed one in real quick and made sure to RTV the holes I cut in the panels really well to help protect it and keep it from moving. If I had caught this earlier I woulda modded the stock shield but dont wanna hassle with it right now. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psda1cad8c.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps0b8e8fb5.jpg Thats it for now. I started wiring up the front lights and had to do some work to get the front clip ready for the LEDs. I will finish that up shortly and be able to glue it all together soon I hope! Matt |
Re: BlueBronco budget build Well crap... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps453aa2c7.jpg I wasnt too keen on the shifters and noticed somethin a little funky goin on with em. The styrene around the shifters themselves turned soft and mushy. Not sure if it was the paint or ShoeGoo or both but it had to come off which messed up the paint pretty good lol. I then made a new housing for the twin sticks, moved them and moved the Tranny shifter as well. MUCH happier now. Little more touchup and it should look legit. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps84f4f348.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psb844faaa.jpg I forgot to take pics of this a while back. I used some stuff layin around and put together 2 gas caps to make things a little more 3D. Not too bad! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...psde6521d4.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps91ef2983.jpg Gonna snag some LEDs from Jmel then Ill be able to move on with getting the front clip finished and mounted up. Matt |
Re: BlueBronco budget build original shifters were legit, too bad they popped off. looked damn near just like my trial rig- liking the gas caps! L.R. |
Re: BlueBronco budget build Love this rig.... It's refreshing to see a ground up build with handmade parts, trial and error and a little ingenuity. So many builds here are just buying and bolting on parts. Anyhow, the interior looks awesome! Well done and can't wait to see it back together! |
