Day to day with a TF2 Hilux...

When it began...
http://i1150.photobucket.com/albums/...vr/KPW/a14.jpg

Had a great time building this up.

HH BRXL and 35T HH Handwound, the rest is stock...

I began building up some armor to replace the stock plastic stuff.

was trolling around Allpro's site and feared I may have to build a full rear cage/rack :)

First iteration of a front bumper...

The rear done and mounted...just awaiting finishing and paint in this pic.
http://i1150.photobucket.com/albums/...516_123551.jpg

Wanted a bit more height without a body lift so I set myself up with these. Made from scrap amsteele, they'll never bend or rust. They're .25" longer than stock so I should see about 1/8" of lift and a better pinion angle out back and in front.

http://i1150.photobucket.com/albums/...514_152350.jpg

http://i1150.photobucket.com/albums/...523_185733.jpg

Wasn't feeling the first front bumper I made. I liked the whole thing, but not on this rig.

Went with the less is more deal. I honestly hate building bumpers. If I had the $ I'd just order perfection from GCM. I'd much rather have spent my night {at work} fabbing up the allpro rack.

This bumper has been in and out of my tool box for over a year. a few minor tweaks and I'm happy with the mounting and the fitup. Had to cut some of the grille out but hey, I've had to do that on soooo many 1:1's when fitting my 8274's. As soon as I got home, I migged up some caps for the sides. Iwill get some pics of it primed, painted and mounted up in the AM. This is perfect as it's super low profile and still gives the front the protection. I just hated the stock plastic bumper up front as it was way low and gonky. Running without it though gave me a case of the hives from stressing about smacking the chrome bumper and fenders.

Problem solved.

Will pull the interior back out and darken the floor, but overall, I'm happy. Uh, pay no attention to the lack of Mirror :) Getting tired of gluing them after every run so I suppose rubber it is!

With the new Rock Stompers...

Re: Day to day with a TF2 Hilux...

Had cut and bent all the tubing for the All-Pro style bed cages...just hadn't got around to building them (one for Josh's green TF2)

Finally started melting metal the other night. The wood is an old wine box I flipped over. I measured and drew out an exact copy of the TF2's bed on the wood and drilled holes where the cage would mount. Once I placed the main stays in the jig, I slid a piece of aluminum under to maintain uniform height from the top of the stay to the box to minimize height variation.

http://i1150.photobucket.com/albums/...528_220749.jpg

http://i1150.photobucket.com/albums/...528_220725.jpg

got both welded up. I'll be trimming the bottom of the stays to an even length and then filling and priming them up :) The Paint will be after I used some solid rod to bend up any racks, lightbars etc and get them welded on.

Yeah, they're much more supple, even without weighted wheels. The extra, thinner leaves seem to articulate much better. You can see how they droop well when unloaded.

Cool pic.

Like the jig idea for rear cage, so the camper shell was temporary, until the rack shows up?

Yeah I initially wanted to do the Camper shell instead of a rack. The rack is sort of a "been there, done that" thing for me from my last build so I didn't want to just automatically do it.

http://i1150.photobucket.com/albums/...rovr/110/6.jpg

then I stumbled upon the All-Pro one and dug it :) I still may just go with a classic Roll-Bar style setup like this.

Maybe tie it into the in cab cage

You can have both, the cage and roll bar, just make them removable.

That way you can choose, depending on the distance of your trail run.

He needs a way to run about 10 options :ror: . Rj usually changes his mind before he finishes things...most times. I am very bad with that as well. I haven't done too much to my Yota yet as there are so many ways to go, I just can't decide on many things. Plus at work...I have to work, unlike someone else in this thread :flipoff: . I get pics on my Blackberry almost every day from him on the progress while at work lol. Much of the time I can't respond as I am running wires or programming something. And I usually hate him due to jealousy. Rj, I love ya like a sister...:lmao:

Rig looks great. I am hopping to work on mine today (SCX10 Hilux, not TF2).

I actually have a second bed all painted up as well :) It's staying full length and I believe I'm bobbing the current bed. Plan is to keep the Cap and full cage for the spare tamiya bed since it's not full depth. The TF2 bed will get bobbed and maybe a bar.

You love my ADD intentions...especially since you have a Hilux ;) Means more options for you

I'm really getting stoked on the in cab cage...subtle but rad.
