| C1 34' Ford flatbed dually
I've wanted to build a 34' Ford for a while now. I have a lot of good memories with my grandpa's 36' Ford pickup. He taught me to drive in it when I was about 8 years old! I was always in the garage with him working on it. When he passed away, my grandma gave it to their oldest son (all my uncles got a car, grandpa had a nice collection.) Unfortunately for all of us, my uncle sold it really cheap to the first buyer...$5,000! Man I was pissed, I'm still pissed! I had even told him I'd pay him $10k if I could make payments... no deal. I'll probably name it after my grandpa... maybe Lil' Victor. btw, Victor means The One Who Conquers! Anyway, it was a beast. Over the years it had a lot of motors in it. One of his friends told me at one time it could pull the front wheels off the ground... I don't know if that's true but when I was around, it had a built 350ci, racing slicks on the back with semi truck exhaust pipe's sticking out from under the bed. I've gone back and forth between Class 1 and Class 2 and finally decided to just start on it! So the current plan is fully sprung dually with a flatbed, full interior and 3d motor with open hood. Also, I want it to perform! I may switch it up in the future and do a drop bed. I about have all the parts for it: Axial SCX10 chassis Dinky split skid Dinky GR7 Robinson Racing gears MIP drive shafts (including 2 "E-Revo Short Shafts") Axial axles Axial CVD's VP 8 degree knuckles and chubs RCP locker in front axle Felsenfest locker for the rear axle Beef toobs RC Bros leaf conversion kit Chino military springs BR-XL GTDCNC 1.7" dually wheels RC4WD 1.7" IROKs I still need bearings, another RR outdrive, another set of Beef Toobs and a few other odd's and ends. The parts Mock up: Test fitting the springs. I'll need to drill new mounting holes, the Chino springs are really long! I was able to slide the GR7 and Split Skid way back to accommodate for the snub nosed hood/grill. The wb doesn't look bad here. I think I could get away with a bed. Plenty of room for the interior and motor. I'm finally going to try and learn to braze! I plan on making a front 34' Ford bumper, some tube work to hold the body together and maybe tube work to outline the fenders so they don't get hung up everywhere. The RC4WD 1.7" IROK's are fricken massive! They are way to wide for my liking on the dually wheels... I'm thinking 1.5" Rock Stompers. I really like the 1.5" MTZ's but I don't really want to give up almost an inch in height. I'll just have to wait and see how they look mounted. A couple of reference pics. Marmon-Herrington 4wd conversion. It's nut full leaf but... I love this flatbed! I've never seen the rear fenders left in place like that. I'm going to try and copy it. Well, that's the beginning! You visited my thread so I figured I would give yours a look! Very cool so far. I am planning on building another 34 but instead of a truggy I am going to go scale with 1.55 tires and some RC4WD axles since they make them in super narrow. Definitely Subscribed!

This has been my slowest build ever! The C1 has been on the back burner while I tuned the C2, rebuilt the C3, put the FOFF back together... and picked up a Slash. Well, I couldn't deal with the giant 1.7" IROKs so I picked up some 1.5" MTZs... they are tiny compared to the IROKs... but I think they look a lot better. I think I'll go with these for now and if I get my butt kicked by tire height, I'll pick up the kicked Rock Stompers... or new 1.55" PITBULLS!!! |

Good timing, I was gonna update this thread today. I just got back to this build last night... I had lent the chassis and axles to a friend so he could compete in our TTC. Turns out he didn't need the stuff but we had a hard time meeting up so I could get the parts back. He dropped them off Sat. night. I hope to have a drivable chassis by end of the week. |

got the Dinky Divorce Kit mounted with most of the drive train. Since these pics I flipped the servo to line up the arm with the tie rod and lowered the body some. I had to move the front axle forward on the springs to fit in the wheel wells a little better. I'm thinking bigger tires will look better... The best news is I've worked out a deal for some tube work to mount the cab. More on that once it starts. |

The new 1.55 Pitbulls would look awesome on this! Great build and great body! The super narrow Vanquish Currie axle would be perfect for the rear, can't wait to see this build come together.

Thanks guys! I was thinking the same thing about the new Currie axle as soon as they were announced! I don't like how far the dually wheels stick out. I probably will get the 1.55 PB's once they come out... then I'll have 3 rigs on PitBulls. |

The Rogue Element Air Cleaner showed up. I plan on printing a 3d engine for it... this will top it off nicely. Last edited by johnnyh66; 12-18-2012 at 09:10 PM. |
