Yeah, I would think not having the line lined up well could cause issues. I always use some sort of guidance system for the winch line.

We did a trail run this past weekend. As luck would have it my motor crapped out on me before we even hit the trail so a friend let me borrow his awesomely massive Defender 110 with tiny little 1.55s on it. It was slow, it was top heavy, it didn't have much traction........and it was AWESOME! I had so much fun wheelin' that thing all day long! So I decided I'm going to tweak the LJ a bit and go for a bit less performance in favor of more realism. The biggest offender in the LJ? Those wide a$$ axles!

Would anyone be interested in trading some VERY built Axial axles for some K44s?

Nice choice. It's like going from your full width rock crawler TJ and hopping in your friends stock-ish YJ with no lockers and 33's and remembering how fun it was to wheel something with less performance. Albeit frustrating at times but still fun.




Your gonna love those K44's, they will look right at home under this LJ.

Any plans for 1.55 wheels by chance? Do you think Patrick will ever make 1.55 wheels for LockedupRC?

Yeah, it really does make a difference wheeling a less capable rig. It's much more like 1:1 wheelin'! It sparked an interest in an old build that's been on the back burner for sometime. Expect a resurrected build thread soon.

I'm not sure if Patrick has plans for 1.55s, but now that I'll be moving to narrower axles I definitely have plans for some 1.55s. Fortunately, I've already got a set of great looking 1.55s: RC4WD Voids (i.e. Walker Evans).

Rock sliders have begun! I couldn't stand those bare rockers any longer! They're steel so some tube will be welded/brazed to them. The hardare is all 2-56 panhead but I may see how the 2mm scale hardware looks on there instead.


Should provide some nice coverage underneath, too.

Good question! I suspect maybe 45 WT? I honestly don't recall. I likely went heavier than normal due to the limited shock travel since it's angled so much.

I can't deny it. 1.55s look so much more scale than 1.9s on this rig.


So I'm definitely going to narrow the track width on this Jeep, which will also help me tuck 1.55s better (since 1.55s don't have much backspacing).

If anyone has some Wraith axles for sale (stock or modified), let me know. I may also be interested in a trade with my fully build SCX10 axles.

Nice, build tommy! I just picked up a few NB TJ lids so an LJ is in my future. I am also on the hunt for a nice 1.1 LJ. I just got rid of my highly modded 1.1 xj.
