Don't you dare use that amusing parts bruiser interior kit! You have scratch built and entire body, ya need to have an accurate dash and interior

It's actually pretty close though. To my '84 at least. Add two round ac vents to the center of the dash and change the square one on the right to round and its pretty good!

I was going to say, it is pretty close. I think the gauge cluster is a little more segregated, but could be easily fixed. Radio is in the right spot as is the glove box. And the vents like you said.

Haha, don't worry folks. I'm scratching the interior and dash! Just "building" up to it... This hilux interior will go into a hilux.

Not close enough.

At least it gives me something to look at for accuracy on the radio!

A very slow bit of progress. I had to revise a few of my original angles on the hood and it's front corners, but once I sand it out, I'll be happy.

Also started on a rear seat. I like the back bench seat on this truck a lot. Sits right between the wheel wells.

For some completely daft reason, back when I started this build, I put the floor in before I did the roof. NICE MOVE, IDIOT! It's going to be pretty difficult to work on the interior once the roof is on, huh? Whatever the reason, I went back and chopped it out so I could work on the seats, transmission hump, inner door panels, what have you, and still finish the exterior simultaneously. At the end I'll put everything back together on the chassis.

Oops my floor fell out.

Since my floor is out, I did some more work on the back bench seat.

I'm using some foam that's meant to be carved. Need to build up a few layers.

Time to put the roof on. I used some heavy weights to dry fit the roof and keep it in place.

Back to sanding and filling. Lots of fun.

What a difference it makes with the roof! I bet you are stoked about this. I know I am.

The body is amazing there's a long way to go but it looks awesome. I just love the detail in it.

Thanks gents. Yes, I am stoked now that it's got a roof on it. Like you said, long way to go, but I'm really feeling like I'm in a groove now.

These are the best parts of builds, when you can see the progress(a lot of it) and can't wait for the final product.

Man, I can't wait either! Someone else make it for me, I'm tired of sanding!

I post this build everywhere. I've even posted it on some quilting forums. I've been subsequently banned from those forums. I guess old ladies don't like Toyotas.

Sweet! I've been approached by Styrene Monthly and Bondene Quarterly. I think exclusive rights will probably go to Cwalring Digest.

Thanks!

I've got a couple things done, but nothing special.

Started roughing out the tailgate.

Decided to paint it with Bondo. Most Toyota's of this era have this much Bondo, so I don't feel too bad.

So what depth of mud will you be driving this through? 6 inches? 11 inches? 3 feet?

Mud? Well, after all the work I will have put into this, I'd say whatever it'd get stuck in so I can leave it.

I'll keep that in mind. I also hate mud.

So, I'm pretty sick this weekend. I spent all afternoon in the workshop to make myself feel better.

First, finished the transmission hump on the floor.

I got frustrated working with the scratch rear bench seat so I gave up and used a spare bench from the TF2 kit.

I wanted to get a really good start on the grille and front clip today.

You'll notice in this shot I managed to get the height just so, so when I modify a Hilux bumper it should line up just right with the front clip.

Started the grille. Not sure I'm happy with it quite yet. Needs some contouring.

More tomorrow.

Primer as soon as it warms a little bit more. I'm taking my time with this one.

what type of putty are you using on the styrene? i have tried the mmd green putty which says its safe for styrene but it makes it soft- also the bondo I have is the stage 3 glazing and spot putty its not too bad, but it too makes the styrene soft.

great job on this build!

Most fillers will make styrene soft until it dries. They have methyl ethyl ketone in them, the same ingredient as some styrene solvents.

The only thing I don't like about scratch builds is that they don't come in a box. Are you going to make a display box for this?
