Default Weapon's Hilux trail truck mattzilla chassis

I have been collecting parts for this for a couple of months now. I have almost everything so I can get started.

we will see how these axles go.

this transmission isn't my first choice but its fairly low profile and its a 2 speed. plus its been sitting on my shelf for a year. we will see.

body and dinky cap, also have a dinky v1 interior to go in.

aaah the chassis. looks like a nice piece, seems sturdy enough. Didn't have too much fuss with links, right now its roughed in with axial longs on lower and axial shorts on the top. I will replace them all with titanium or stainless.

Waiting on a GCM transfer case.

that's it so far.

thanks for looking

Nice, they seem like they are hard to find, I'm in Vancouver BC and no one had them, but it always seems like when u need a certain part for a build you can never find it lol

Looking good, just not sure of the placement of the battery, seems like a bunch of weight in the back to me.. I'd try and place that battery in the middle more, unless your just trail riding then it should be ok..just my 2cents..

Its not there yet just roughing stuff. Still have a bunch to do before I decide where its going besides that trans is pretty heavy. Yes, I don't really run on rocks they scratch the paint too much.

I really like the way the RC4WD landies look on this truck.
Sits too high still I will adjust the height after I know where it wants to sit loaded.

It looks like the hub design might allow for a little more offset with a bit of machining.

change of plans that transmission and shift servo is too big to fit up front with an interior, so center trans it is. I will have to build something else with the GCM transfer case.
Layout should be something like this.
transmission shifts good, I bought it broken a year ago so it has brand new gears in it, and its been sitting greased waiting.

Thanks for looking.

Well nothing really groundbreaking happening here but I did make it a runner. Still have to plastidip my shift servo and clean up the wiring a little more.
But I think I can safely work on the interior now.

well I am at a stand still on my newest defender build (waiting for parts and inspiration) so I thought I would get some stuff done on this truck.
please excuse the grainy pictures I think I dropped my iphone one too many times

interior is all trimmed up, had to make a lot of allowances to have a 2 speed in this truck
hopefully the servo cover doesn't stick out too bad once its painted.
going to cover the patchwork floor with rubber floor mats

the window holes are cut out and cleaned up. this stuff is really thin and the lines are pretty hard to follow when cutting but I think it turned out ok.

fully assembled everything works.
next up is bodywork and paint.

thanks for looking

You said you bought the transmission as broken, what actually failed? I see RC4WD has these for a pretty decent price and was concerned about durability since I haven't seen them mentioned often lately.

Build looks great!

one of the gears inside had split apart so it was loose on the shaft. I never really had any opportunity to use it as it was broken when I got it. It now has one run on it so its early to tell. But in my opinion rc4wd and durability don't really fit in the same sentence too well. I hear that's changing though.

I probably wouldn't buy another one personally, I am just using it because it will sit on a shelf or go in the garbage if I don't.
