Die-Laughing's 1st Class 2dr JK Build

Well, I'm finally getting around to doing my next proper Class1 build.

It's in the early stages yet.. what better time to start a build thread. ;-)

Alright, here's what we're working with..

Placed my order for an RC4WD Gelande II.
http://img821.imageshack.us/img821/9485/pgxl.png

Picked up a set of RC4WD K44 Axles & 4link mounts.
http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/2299/br6m.jpg

Received my 2dr Jeep JK hardbody in the mail today & slapped some 1.7 Iroks under it for pictures..

http://img821.imageshack.us/img821/4617/bflh.jpg

I don't have any big plans/ideas right now but, they'll come to me. I plan on probably ditching the fenders, doing a roll bar, some body work, paint it a different color, etc. I'd like to think that I can pull off a certain amount of uniqueness with this build even though these bodies might be flooding the BST here in a little while.

Stay tuned! "thumbsup"

You wont need the K44 link mounts. The G2 kit ones will work just fine.

The more that I look at those bodies, the more I want one. So many scale points without any work involved. A minor bit of detailing w/ paint and those interiors will look like a million bucks. "thumbsup"

Rick,
I was thinking the same thing when I saw the jeep body that was floating around at ECSC. Subscribed...

Damnit.. I was so excited to have BTA steering but, I forgot theres nowhere for the drag link to hook to!!

RC4WD! I need a new K44 knuckle with ears coming off front & rear! :ror:

Re: Die-Laughing's 1st Class 2dr JK Build

Well, here's the problem.

I need this rod end to hook to the front of this knuckle.
http://i1308.photobucket.com/albums/...psdd253146.jpg

I guess I have to make an arm. I decided to do something along the lines of how those red vp wraith arms bolt to the knuckle so, First step is to drill & tap the knuckle.
http://i1308.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0ada0f7c.jpg

Then I found a piece of material.. Which was a axle servo mount for an scx10. I drew up the shape I wanted. Ended up using an existing hole and adding a hole.
http://i1308.photobucket.com/albums/...ps92a51ef3.jpg

Bam! Got it shaped out, countersunk the holes, drilled & tapped the outer hole and done.
http://i1308.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6e17e1ca.jpg

That should work.

I wasn't going to let this thing beat me! I needed K44's & BTA setup! Needed it!

Why did you change out the axles. Not scale on a jeep?

Yeah, they just fit the build better. ;-)

Ok.. If this ain't some gangsta shit.. I don't know what is. :lmao:
All my C1 trucks has been leaf sprung until this one. I must say, this is a pretty sweet setup for a C1.

Oh no! it got run over by the lawn mower!

http://img547.imageshack.us/img547/9205/uq1z.jpg

I feel like thats how my stuff looks after I hack it off with my technique. Compared to those of you that are using thread to cut plastic and it looks nice & clean. I used a cut off wheel and then a bench grinder and then a file. It actually doesn't take very long to get it finished up pretty nice. I'm not familiar with how long the thread technique takes.

Well, here's what we're dealing with so far. I got it in the stance I like and the floor boards are sitting against the chassis. To get it a little lower I'll be running a mostly droop setup. I had to ditch the rear shock towers and get creative with my rear shock mounting. I think it worked out ok. other than the exterior body chopping I did, I only had to modify the floor board a little bit at the feet of the rear passengers to fit the rail in there better..no biggie. I'll be running poison spyder flares.

I'm really diggin' this RC4WD Gelande II.. It's a really nice kit. I expected that after the success of the TF2. I really liked owning that one as well.

I'm going to do the tube bumpers & sliders on this one.. I'm excited for that. I might do a quick roll bar as well.

There is 2 problem in your config....
1st the arm you made is too short, in my opinion and you will loose steering angle, that's why you needed to put a big spacer between the rod end on drag link.
A longer arm make the right distance to have clearance from the axle bow, and keep the maximum steering angle.

2nd the bta in the narrow axles like d35 k44 and so on are difficult to make if you are seArching the max performance for comp because the body of the tierod rod ends touch the ammo before reaching the maximum angle...

By the way nice project but pls change the wheels with the right 1,7 one

Re: Die-Laughing's 1st Class 2dr JK Build

Thanks guys!

1.7 Iroks VS. 1.55 Growlers, that is the question.

Iroks:
Outer Diameter: 4.18"
Width: 1.6"
Inner Diameter: 1.7"
Advanced X3 Soft & Sticky Compound

Growlers:
Outer Diameter: 4.19"
Width: 1.43"
Inner Diameter: 1.9"
Komp Kompound

The Growlers have the better compound but also have an "all-terrain" tight lug pattern. New & cool tire. Must use 1.55 wheels.

The Iroks are meatier looking and wider with an aggressive tread pattern. Can use 1.7 or 1.9 beadlocks.

Hmm. I already have the 1.7 Iroks and I already have the growlers and some cool 1.55 gearhead beadlocks on the way but, If I use the iroks I can get the even cooler 1.9 Gearhead beadlocks I want with IMO a better looking tire.

Performance. The growler is a better compound, the irok is more aggressive & wider. I think they'd be very comparable in performance.

What do you guys think?
