Default Ecto-1

Pulled the trigger on the parts for my next build, the Ghostbusters ECTO-1. Going to start with a 1984 Kenner Real Ghostbusters ECTO-1 Ambulance.

Parts:

AE2 ESC
Axial 27t motor
Castle BEC
Hitec 7954 servo
SCX10 trans
Hot Racing steel trans gears
WB8 driveshafts
SCX10 shocks (maybe, build will tell more)
RC4WD Desert Kings 1.55 tires
RC4WD Landies steel beadlocks
I'll make my own links dependent on wheelbase
LED lights with flasher for ambulance light bar (still need to get these)

I'm not looking to build a hardcore crawler. I really want to build a cool looking, working, 4x4 ECTO-1. I will leave the body as stock as the build will allow. I plan to do some paint detail so the "gray" plastic will appear chrome. This will be a slow build. This has been on my mind for a while. I want to take my time and make this a nice looking 4x4 ECTO-1. As for a driver, well, I can only think of one man worthy of the job, Bill Murray. Once the build gets to a state of completion, worthy of Bill Murray, I will then hunt down a nice action figure to drive the ECTO-1.

The ECTO-1 should be here in a few days and, the remaining parts should be around the same time. Hope to get started soon. If you want to watch an ECTO-1 come to life, stay tuned. If you want to see a build go up in flames, well, maybe stay tuned. Only time will tell.

And just for motivation.

All the parts should be in this week, including the body. Hope to get a start on some of it this weekend.

I entered the ECTO-1 into the; Team OTTSIX build off.

TEAM OTTSIX Post Season Build Off

I figure a chance at cash never hurt motivation. I'll start using a real camera and, stop taking photos with the phone.

Looks like most the parts will be in this week. Hope to spend some time coming up with a plan once I have everything in front of me. Right now the biggest issue I see is using the SCX10 frame rails. Once the body is in hand it will be easier to address this. I want "real" rails, I dont want to attach everything to the plastic under body.... We'll see what happens.

I'm looking forward to getting into this one.

Very nice!

Wasn't me but, that would be a hard one to pull off. Those bodies are "cartoon" looking and very square. That would be hard to make look like anything but a comic book ride.

The ECTO-1 toy isn't the most detailed but, I think with some attention to detail I can pull it off..... maybe

If I wasn't such a GM snob, I would like to do, or see someone else do, the Bluesmobile.

I figure I could get a little start. Cleaning up the stock SCX10 axles. Nothing fancy, just some cleaning and lubing. Bearings felt good so, I'll save the cash and reuse them. Axle shafts were good as well. Rear axle will be a pain. I have a set screw I'll have to drill out. Promise betters pictures once the battery for the camera charges. Don't be jealous of my super work area (a joke). In my carport. Not heated or cooled. One of my dogs pisses on my chair leg (yes I clean it up, don't be gross). More to come soon...

Ya, I hear ya. He's had that ass beat for it. He's house broke but, apparently could give two shits about my chair. He's on my watch list, don't worry. Too small to punch.

I don't see this one doing much hard stuff. May just pull the TF2 to the rocks.

Set screw needs to go. It was stripped out.

What's that saying, "right tool, for the right job". I didn't have that tool.

Always wear your glasses

Things got serious. Stupid set screw.

Damn.... Set screw out and finally putting things back together.

Patched a couple holes with some two part epoxy.

Well axles are back together. The rear will need to come apart again. I think I roughed up a gear. I took it apart and filed a couple teeth but, I'm not happy with it. That's a fix for later.

I did this post using photobucket.... I'm going back to taptalk. Taptalk is much easier to post pictures and type under the image. After looking at some of the pictures, the camera shots are just as good, or better.
