| Rckcrwlr's Luxury Barn Find
So the story goes like this... I have been looking for a project build. Not necessarily a new build, something special that will need some work to bring it back. During my travels for work, I was in Kentucky. I was sitting at dinner in Paducah when I overheard a guy saying "I need to get that darn truck out of my barn". It drew my attention so I started listening to their conversation. This guy was very serious about wanting it out of his barn. He was saying that if someone would take it he would be happy with $500. I'm thinking, wow, I wonder how bad this thing is. I ran to the bathroom and when I came back they were gone. As I was checking out, I mentioned something about the truck to the cashier. She said, oh that is Buford and he lives just a block down the street. She knew what truck it was. It seems that his son worked on it and then lost interest. She said it has been sitting for about 10 years and is covered in Bat Poop, Hay, a saddle and who knows what else. She said to stop down and tell him that she sent me. I figured, WTH, when am I ever going to be this way again. So I pulled up to the barn and he walked out. I told him the story and he said to come in the barn. What I saw was a pile of crap. It seems that it became a good storage place. I couldn't even see what type of truck it was. He thought it was early 80's but wasn't sure kind, being that it has been covered for 10-15 years. So we started with the back, moved some stuff and I didn't recognize the rear quarter panel...It looked familiar but it didn't click. After clearing it off...this is what I found... So introducing my new Luxury Barn Find...A 198? Land Rover D90 Truck. It is a basket case, there is no interior, some rust (thought these were alumunum?) and no chassis or drivetrain...yeap just a body. But for the price, I couldn't pass it up. It seems that this guy owns Starnes BBQ in Paducah, KY and liked how much I loved Smoking and BBQ...so he power washed it, loaded it up and shipped it to me garage for a total of $120. Now the fun begins...Need to find out more about it...start looking for interior and something to put it on. I doubt I will find a stock chassis for it. |

It definitely needs some work. It looks like the last color was a dark green that was painted with a roller (Its so thick). I can also see some beige, grey (primer), blue and white. My first order of business is to get it repaired and on a chassis to run. I will start looking for old interior that I can have redone. Glass is going to be hard to get my hands on...especially the rear corner glass that is curved. I just cannot believe that he sold all the parts to this truck...it's going to make my job harder. |

Quite a catch there. What color you thinking of doing? Also half the fun is finding the parts to finish builds. Cant wait to see where this goes |

I didn't realise that the 90 in Pick -Up spec. (with the closed in cab) had been exported to North America, Do you know what the original power plant was - ie a V8 or a Diesel? Chassis are pretty common over on this side of the pond - shipping is probably prohibitively expensive though. I've had Defenders (1:1) for 20 years and currently drive a 2011 110 Utility. If you need help with the hard to find bits then feel free to PM me and I'll see what is available on the UK breaker market for you. (the curved glass is probably not a problem).

That is one of the best painted 90s I have seen on here. The photos most likely help, but it shows as beaten metal real well. Can't wait to see you build it up. Good job. |

Is it done yet? On most shows I watch where they find a car in the barn, it's done by now.

Why fix it? Looks to all be intac. Norhing missing or falling off. Spray clear and drive it. I would rather pay someone to make a body look like that then all shiny any day. |

Haha This looks like an interesting build. Have any ideas for a chassis...or anything? RC4WD's store has the interior, lights, and more parts if you didn't already know.

Wow. Im originally from Mayfield, KY. Right down the road south from Paducah. Ive eaten at Starnes several times. But, for the best BBQ in that area you have to go to Fulton to The Keg. Just make sure to go before dark. It turns into a biker bar when the sun goes down.
