Default The one and only aoshima FJ40

I'm sure this needs no real introduction... you all know of the most coolest toyota hardbodies out there...the aoshima FJ40. Want to give special thanks to Ryan (yotapane) for offering to give this badass rig up. I'm sure the pile of cash helped

Anyway on to the goods...not much to start off with but I'm too excited not to share a couple photos

Plans are to keep it all original, no cutting or hacking of the body...maybe a paint change I can't help but think the yellow is too toy'ish.

Specs so far:
-TF2 base
-Single speed
-Tires?
-Paint...perhaps some short of tan?? Always loved tan yotas

Chino springs madness!!!!!

First couple things I did is strip the tires...and fix a body mount that broke during shipping..easy fix.

Thats it for now my friends....feel free to offer up some ideas or inspirational photos

Maybe a color like this? I think it's called Dune. I am curious, is that body on a standard TF2 chassis? I was wondering what the wheel base is. Looking great! I'll be watching this!

Someone find me two of them so I can make a Troopy.

Looking forward to seeing how this comes together.

Cheers

Small update...not much, this will be a simple but slow process with work and college going on. The chassis is a standard TF2 and unsure of final WB. I plan on using U-bolts to move the front axle back a tad from the way I originally received it...

As far as color, I got my inspiration from 1BJB's "clone to the 3rd power" and went with ModelMaster light ivory. 2 coats of duplicolor scratch primer, 2 coats of light iovory...the interior tub will be duplicolor flat black.

Detail pieces done...

Flat black wheels...

That's all for now...enjoy!

Pretty pleased with the color...what do you think guys?

Some over spray got on the bumper...kinda looks natural, keep it or leave it?

As far as the tub, I need a little help with this one...I tried using duplicolor flat black but it won't stick for the life of me. What am I doing wrong? Lack of primer, different paint, lighter coats?

For the tub, maybe its worth a shot with adhesion promoter and then use a paint for plastics only.

Update! Thanks for the kind words you guys!

Decided to so with the 1.55 Baja Claw and CI foams of course...lots of rubber, good for long trail rides and the occasional rock or two

As for the chassis, opted for bruiser style hangers/shackles from rc4wd...

Onwards to the interior!!!...Thanks to your help, I was able to get the paint to stick and added a few scale features. All nicely held in by velcro.

Started mock up on the chassis...trying to get the U-bolts right. Using old style bruiser set up with hand made upper plate to accommodate the chino springs...these will eventually be painted black also.

Very rough mock up with body...

Stay tuned in!

Your color selection is spot on. It reminds me of the colors you typically see on the Troopies. If you haven't posted it already, your build would be welcome on the IH8MUD forum among all the Cruiserheads.

What do you intend to run for shocks? If I close my eyes I can almost imagine a set of dusty Old Man Emus.

Thanks man! Yeah, wanted the color to not be overwhelming and I believe I've accomplished just that...actually used a couple reference pics from IH8MUD lol As far as shocks, I'm going to be using some turned down tlt's if I can find some shorter shock shafts that will work, getting a lot of binding and really no flex so still working on it. My first choice was to get a set of the ol' yellow emu's though..great minds think alike haha might have to see if I can pick up a set in the wanted section.

Update...

Started on the winch mount, made it pretty simple with some derlin block and steel bar I shaped into a bumper.

Next was time for mounting battery, shocks and electronics...

All buttoned up, ready for trails tomorrow! See how she runs, at the very least get some cool pics

Group pic! Ready to crawl
