So you are going to use the Vaterra for the platform? Is this body you are using manufactured or will you have to scratch build it. I am a member of the scale builders guild site and they have some sweet builds there. I plan on experimenting with brazing soon and building an interior with styrene.

Yeah it's the Tamiya lexan FJ40 that comes on the CR-01 kit. I don't have the time, patience or skill to scratch build a body.

Just spent the last hour or so switching to the shortest WB possible with the Ascender. I think it's still about 18-20mm too long for the FJ but I think it'll be fine. Better approach angle with the front axle pushed out a bit.

Also found some Fasbeige paint in all my airbrush shiz, going to mix up some custom color and try to replicate the 1:1 I have since fallen in love with. Now I wish I would have ordered all this junk last week!

New 30t looks impressive, I could use a little extra wheelspeed. I have Tekin gear in all my crawlers, I got excited when I saw that motor, then realised I can't use my FX-Rs as I run 3s.

Sure you can, they are rated for 3S on our crawler motors. You'll need an external BEC since running 3S kills some amperage but that's been the case for a long time.

I run mine on 4s with a bec with no issues. 35t motor geared low so i have good low end control and 4s gets me average top speed.

I have noticed quite a few guys talking about running 3 cell batts on their rigs and now you say a 4 cell. What the purpose for running such a battery? Is it more run time because I cant imagine a crawler needing that much juice. That's like 1/8 scale racing batteries. We ran 3 cell in our 4 wheel drive slashes and our track outlawed them because they created so much uncontrollable power.

Just because someone runs 4S doesn't mean their rig is wicked fast. I run 4S 1850kV on my YETI and it's only a little bit faster than stock. Higher voltage and gearing down increases efficiency and smoothness and decreases amperage draw, keeping everything nice and cool. I run 2S on all my scales because I don't want to run external BEC's and I already have tons of 2S packs from racing offroad and the performance is perfect for me.

Alright I finally got the electronics finished up (besides lighting, that will come later) and changed the wheelbase to 278mm. Just need to grab my ProTek shorty pack when I get home and bind it up!

Impatiently waiting for the body, wheels and tires!

Ty im like you, 2 cell is good enough for me. I looked at trying to put my esc and rec in that black box but I had trouble getting them in there together. Did you have to mod anything? I have the tekin gen 2 and an airtronics rec.

So I did have to change it a bit. I put the 61mm links the manual says are the front lower in the rear and the 66mm rear lowers in the front. This fixed the pinion angle issues I had, the front was clocked too far forward and it gave it the road grader effect when steering and the rear wasn't clocked enough. Swapped them around and now it's all good. I also had to cut about 1/4" off each end of the rear driveshaft as it was bottoming out and limiting flex.

I threw a 20T pinion on and it's not bad, could use some more wheel speed. This thing is smoooooth and quiet! Can't wait til I can wheel it outside my living room.

As for my electronics, I have an FXR and SR2000 in there, plenty of room. RSG2 would fit as well, so I'm guess your reciever is bigger than mine.

Top spring - .90mm; bottom spring - 1.10mm

Is that what you were looking for? I just miked the wire, or did you want the spring diameter?

Well I received the RC4WD wheels/tires and Tamiya FJ40 body today. Wheels and tires look great and clear everything nicely. The body, however is WAY too narrow. Even narrowing the axles 12mm like Rich shows here is not going to be enough for the look I want. Guess I'm going to have to wait and maybe get ahold of a PL Bushwacker or just use the PL Bronco I have now. I'm on the fence here, it's not horrible but not exactly what I was after. Also the body didn't come with ANY of the trim pieces, which kinda bums me out.
