4 years later... I still have this thing surprisingly!

It was time for Ol' Yela to get some braces (or a Metaltech front bumper) since it was old enough- Plus, Charlie kept on reminding me.

Great to see you still have it. Have you used it much?

It’s a rare sight to see the OG builder still have their own creation after all of these years.

I do bring it out on occasion and to a locals’ backyard crawl park. It’s mostly an art piece to me so preserving it is a big deal. Plus it only uses a 1000mah 2S lipo.

Thanks guys! It has actually been tinkered with and drastically improved performance wise, for a hardbody anyway.

Nothing really picture worthy, honestly. Just messed with the link geometry and locations using existing holes/standoffs in the frame to relocate the links up and out of the way and to get rid of the massive Gelande II transfercase “shovel” skid.

I, then tackled the lack of suspension movement up front by c notching the frame so that the panhard and draglink had more clearance under full stuff on the passenger and full steering turning left. Also improving the geometry of the panhard by making it a few mm longer.

Front and rear axles float as they should, now with awesome pinion angles and a flat belly. Also added some weight on the rear axle by installing a pair of clamp “rollers” (they can be found at a hardware store) on the ends.

Welp, Charlie is at it again. Nagging me for a rear bumper and has that stimulus check burning a hole in his pocket.

So he ended up with a new tire carrier!

I’d say that’s the HPI Venture rear bumper.

That is correct. A very heavily modified rear bumper.

Default Cruisin' the FJ with the FJ Cruiser

Looks like Charlie was tired of the axles after 5 years, so I treated him to some new VS4-10 D44 axles. I’m too sweet to him sometimes.
