Default 1984 Toyota 4Runner

I never thought I'd do this again...

Mutilated Tamiya Hilux body with some extra styrene glued to it.

It started out as a Trail Finder 2. I swapped the 2 speed for an Axial transmission, flipped the front spring hangers and shackles, stuck the steering servo on the correct side, raised the transfer case and narrowed the yota axles.

Really nice body work, love the mod on those axles!
Do you have closeups on the axial transmission fix?

I do and it couldn't be easier. The holes are already in the chassis and line up with the Axial transmission. I added a strip of aluminum on the bottom to help keep the transmission closed since it wasn't attached. If you like to run big power you could add a plate to cover the whole thing.

I like to see how far I can go. Sometimes it's successful, but other times...

Well, you cut the axle and take some stuff out and put it back together. Pretty complicated stuff and junk.

Actually, I don't have many pictures of the process since I was experimenting and didn't know if it would work. I removed 10mm from each side of the axles. I drilled the housing out to accept some aluminum tubing I had laying around. Then I cut a section out of the housing and used JB Weld to stick it back together. I figured out a way to make the axles come apart for service if they needed it. The axle shafts were just cut and brazed back together. I have no idea if this is going to hold up to actual use, but I'm going to take it easy on this truck anyway.

Little update. This is how it's going to sit.

It looks like the perches and shock mounts are moved around...very slick work. I might have to skinny up the axles under the bronco a tad. Top notch work as usual man keep it up!!!

That is correct. It's a simple and free mod and makes the front suspension more accurate. Let me test these axles out before you go and cut into yours! Thanks.

Quick diversion from bodywork. The spare.

There will be a removable hardtop like a proper 4Runner should have. Speaking of which...

I made a lot of dust today.
