On to the rear fender wells. I started with making a form out of some scrap maple.

I then measured up the dimensions so I could figure out the best way to wrap the metal without getting bad folds. I started with a paper template and that worked out well so I moved on to the metal version. I was happy with the detail I was able to get once I soldered the seams. A bit of filler prior to paint should hide them completely. I also started on the filler neck panels that go on both sides of the drivers side wheel well. They need a bit more fitting to close the gaps but that should be pretty easy compared to the rest of it.

Bed filler panels and fender wells joined to bed and rear body support. Still need to join front and rear bed but had to see it together.

Hold on this was discussed in the past. Weight is not simply divided by 10 to scale it down 10 times. Something to do with the equation of mass and the 3 dimensions of length, width & height.

http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/showt...sible numbers?
As discussed in this thread it is concluded that weight is 3 dimensional and so must be divided by 10 3 times. A 5000 lbs rig would weigh 5 lbs.

Wow... Thank you very much. Your builds still amaze me. The bronco is so easy in terms of stampings compared to the toyota. Ford used lots of flat sheet and easy curves except for the door posts, grill (still scratching my head on how to pull that one off) and rear bed corners.

Has anyone ever figured a way to do scale window regulators for roll up windows?

Got some more done on the rear bed. Fabbed up the upper bed/inner quarter along with the rear gate pillars. Also got the rear door post supports tacked on to the posts. Here is the progress so far...

Marvelous work on this build Sir!! How are you Making the indentations in the metal? are you creating press molds or just pounding them into the metal with hammers and metal shapes? I se a few pages back you used a chisel did you just make a grove in the metal beneath the part and then place the chisel above that and strike it?

Both methods are used. Post number 33 shows the die used for the ribbing in the front floor panels. I use the printed out templates as a guide. I start the indentation with the chisel on a cutting mat. Line up this starter dent with the die and continue to work it with the chisel. The rear bed uses press plates (post 81 i think) in my shop press. These are male and female plates I cut from 6061 aluminum plate. All the rest of the panels are printed out, cut to size, and bent with a vise or vise grips. Another method that works well is to score the metal along the lines first with a dull utility knife. That puts a very nice crease in the metal for the bent to start. You can also use a sharp blade to score the metal and use that to work harden the metal back and forth and it snaps right off in a perfect straight line. Way easier than tin snips or cutoff wheel. I also use a cutoff wheel in my flexible shaft grinder quite a bit for shaping and trimming small parts.

Here is the work so far on the gate. Made the measured drawing and cut out the ford lettering from some 14 guage sheet steel. I had to redo the letter O twice because i dropped it on the shop floor and it vanished GRRRRRRRR! After about 15 minutes on my hands and knees with a welding magnet and wisk broom I gave up and made another one. I kind of rushed these a bit so nothing show quality here, just proof of concept and I snapped of the drill bit I used to drill out the counters in the letters.

3M spray mount them to the template that is already glued to the sheet.

Placed in the vise with a piece of wood on the receiving side and vise jaw directly against the letters results in this.

Attempting to hand work around the letters from the front side got a bit more detail but also dinged up the sheet a bit too much for my liking. Think this might require a male and female die set to get the crisp edge I want.

Moving along... The start of shaping and fitting.
