1982 Blazing Blazer

5 Attachment(s)
My son was bragging to his friend about my RC cars and was showing him my latest build.
http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/2-2-s...tchs-brew.html
A couple days later his friend brought this over and told my son to give it to me.
He said his father in law gave it to him 13 years ago cause he wasn't ever going to do anything with it.
Well he never did anything with it either.
He just wanted to drive it once is all he wanted for it.

After I got it, I realize it was worth around 1500 bucks.
Well I couldn't take it knowing that. So I gave it back.

I was telling my son how bad I wanted that truck in 1982, but my daughter was born that year and at the time it would of took 2 of my pay checks to buy one.
LOL so it was a dream then.

Well my son went and talk his friend in a deal and bought it for me.
What a great kid I have. :)

He's my question.
Do i do it stock
do I mod it up alitte.

I will put ESC and change out the lawn mower battery.
New shoes and foams for sure.

But I think thats all I want to do.

Very nice Ricky, like others said, stock if it we're me. Keep it safe and run it gentIy. I had to sell my original Hilux because I couldn't keep it out of the dirt and off the rocks. Shameful that I later saw it parted out on ebay.

I would have had same problem. And.....ouch.

Forgot to say that this one looks like low run-time usage, u-joints look tight, speed control wiper and contacts look almost pristine from here.

Dang Rick! you are one lucky SOB! and a very stand-up guy giving it back once you found out it's value "thumbsup" Most people would have said "awesome! free money!" and thrown it up on the bay, pocked the cash and never said a word.

in my opinion if you want to keep the value, clean it and shelf it. if you want to run it and are not necessarily concerned about maximum value, then I would go the rout you outlined but not any further. That is one rare piece of RC history and you should feel honored to possess it.

Wow nice barn find Ricky. I'm going have to share this story with may kids it might give them some ideas. 8)

A detailed restoration would be my first choice, it looks like its all there.

Wow what a score. A blazing blazer is the only 3 speed I haven't owned. I missed a beat up one on eBay a few weeks back that was somewhat affordable. Like the others said, you have a great example there, keep it as it is "thumbsup"

Link it, put some clod tires on it, put in an ae-2 with no bec on 4s, 3300kv with independent suspension all the way around and yota axles. Top all that off with a NewDim Jeep Jk body!

:lmao:

It is a really sweet find and we applaud your honesty in giving it back! I've always wanted one myself. Would love to see some more pics after you clean it up and some video if you decide to run it (which I would). That would be great!

Re: 1982 Blazing Blazer

I made it run.
Every thing works.
But the design of the steering and the shifter SUCK.
I may have rework it a little.
I want to drive it. I am not shelf queen kind of guy.
But I would be easy with it.
Anyone know what turn motor this came out with.

Good deal on getting it going. "thumbsup"

I relocated the servo to the front on my hilux, mounted to the front cross member and a bracket to the motor plate. Stock motor is a Mabuchi 27t. Trans shifting is part of the charm, get your endpoints set and make sure the linkage is tight and use a higher torque servo for better crisper shifting. I tightened the springs alot on the shift rod and dialed in my end points.

Re: 1982 Blazing Blazer

I thought they put a 750 can motor in it?
Not a 540. Not a 550. A 750.

Bruiser and Mountaineer were 750. The Hilux and BB used a 540 27 turn silver can

Re: 1982 Blazing Blazer

For some reason I was under the impression the hilux and bb had 380 motors....
