RPP outback YJ rebuild

So got this rig pre built a while back and the specs were:
RPP Outback chassis
Tamiya highlift axles
Rc4wd r2 trans
1.55 steelies and cut slingers.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...7d2dce9fe7.jpg

The first thing I changed was electronics and tires and wheels. Threw in a old axial ae2 in place of the Novak brushed system and modded the trans to fit a axial 27t. Also put the 1.9 roc loxs and weighed beadlocks on.

Then came its first rebuild. Well body rebuild. Not much changed other than painting and got rid of the roof rack. Did mount a set of dick cepek fun countries tho.

Then it was traded for this....

RPP outback YJ rebuild

The guy i sold it to ended up selling it and the guy that bought it from him also got a set of rc4wd yota axles to go under it from me. Well a little time went by and it popped up for sale again and boy had it been abused for the few months that it was gone  So i decide to trade for it and get it back. This was how i got it back. Body was all scratched, bent leafs, and it had the cali lean going on.

Re: RPP outback YJ rebuild

So the first thing that was do was 100mm shocks from the rear of a tf2 to fix the rear shocks that were too short causing it to Cali lean. The i respooled the winch with some custom winch line.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...028cda2a90.jpg

Also threw the tires and wheels from my tf2 on just for fun and to see if the Cali lean was gone.

The next issue was something I wanted to change the day I got the truck and never did. That horrible r2 trans has got to go.

So since I am going to school for machining I thought I'd make a fix for this.

We start with a very rough design.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...ec07735b46.jpg

Along with some pics along the way.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...a927e32dd2.jpg
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...81bd27ad04.jpg

And then we get a final product. Now the chassis will accept a scx10 trans.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...406327f28d.jpg
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...b73535a105.jpg

And after some minor chassis grinding. It fits

Then came electronics and a test drive.

For electronics it's got a hpi qbase( rebranded mmp ). Axial 27t and a tower pro mg958

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...ec4d834e7b.jpg
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...66113a4d07.jpg

Then came some slight body work from the previous owner breaking it.
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...31ff4cf6ea.jpg

Also made a more permanent battery mount. A scx10 plate and 2 drilled and tapped holes.

Then made the decision on what tires are gonna go on the rebuild. Also did the bearing mod to the axles and new custom drive shafts which are the old axial universal ends and traxxas half shafts.

Cut 1.55 rock stompers and 1.55 steel wheels.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...dd93b828bb.jpg

Now your all caught up. The next step is figuring out what to do to the body. I'm thinking of doing a rusty yj this time as I've never done a rusty build before. But got some more body work before I can get to paint so I'm still open to ideas.

Looks good as is. well, it does need an interior. Mebbe build one and give it to that guy to thrash for a few months?

Thought about doing an interior but that will be later on and it won't be leaving anytime soon lol.

Nice! My yj body is painted almost exactly the way yours was originally, but it's on top of a cmx.

Re: RPP outback YJ rebuild

Change the suspension up a lil bit on the rig. Took the front springs out of the shocks and on the rear I cut them in half so I get full flex and it's just enough spring to hold it level. Here is the test run of the changes. https://vimeo.com/168967560
It's better on flex but still needs more work.

What size shocks are you running? I didn't get any with my rig and I would like to add a set to help with the bouncing.

I'm running 80mm up front and 100mm in the rear but I'm also running rc4wd yota axles. When this rig had the tamiya axles it ran 80mm all the way around.

Hmmm, I'm running RC4WD D40 axles on mine, I have some 90's from a SCX10 maybe ill see how they fit.

Re: RPP outback YJ rebuild

I could defiantly use some 90mms on the back. I think the 100s are just a lil to long.

They started as the old axial universal style drive shafts and I replace the plastic with traxxas half shafts.

So managed to get a poor excuse for wet sanding done but not to worried about how it looks since it's gonna be a rusty beat up looking rig. As long as paint sticks it will do for me. Might give it another quick sanding to hit what I missed but for now it's drying off.

Made some new test shock hoops real quick out of some .080 styrene. It's a very minor amount of difference but it actually seems like it is gonna help a lot once the springs break in. Also cut down some old axial links to act as stiffeners for the the styrene "hoops".

And here is some flex shots. The tires with actually touch the fenders now where as before the stopped about a half inch from touching.

It looks and performs great. I had owned a 1:1 YJ for a few years and wheeled it alot I can say yours handel's like the real deal. I was always lifting a tire but the thing would go like hell.
