70 Series For Aussies ONLY And well, the rest of us really. G'day folks! I have decided ta purchase a Land Cruiser 70 series body from our mates at AsiaTees hobbies. While this body is usually intended for the LWB TF2 or an SCX10, I've decided ta buck the trends and run it on a regular TF2. How you ask? Through some careful plannin', and general not carin' about rules. Step 1: Start with a gently used, leaf sprung Toyota Trailblazer. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800...921/hSMQmz.jpg Step 2: Remove the top part section of the ute to reveal the naked frame underneath. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800...922/v16DPu.jpg Step 3: Clean off the years of grime and make sure it still runs like a dingo. Step 4: Replace stock transfer case skid with a new one from Bowhouse RC for more clearance in the bush. Before: http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800...924/oHuoF0.jpg After: http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800...921/QHpGXO.jpg Step 5: Build LC70 body. Instructions are excellent and I'm in love with this body. Truly a work of art, and under a set of these beautiful TF2 axles, you can almost tuck the whole thing. Not painted yet, but man, most of these are white, so at least it was molded in it's native colour. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800...922/Q18Jkp.jpg Step 6: Wonder why I started with a normal wheelbase TF2... http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800...921/FDChge.jpg |
Re: 70 Series For Aussies ONLY Courtesy of my latest decision to throw money away, I've bought not built this: http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800...924/5DG99z.jpg Tube bed back from CCHand. Mud flaps and all, it's perfect for an Aussie Ute. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800...921/nHDtLz.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800...923/8M7SLq.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800...922/uhOL95.jpg There's a lot of fiddly little screws, but it's a nicely designed bit of kit. Lots more storage for a battery as an added bonus. All that's required is a front link mod to extend the wheelbase slightly. Still not long. |
Re: 70 Series For Aussies ONLY Looks great and that bed seems right at home on the back of the 70 series |
Re: 70 Series For Aussies ONLY As an Australian, I'm keen to see what you do with this! "thumbsup" |
Re: 70 Series For Aussies ONLY You really think you can show us Aussies how to build an Aussie truck???? |
Re: 70 Series For Aussies ONLY Sorry, I couldn't resist any more, I had to look. I must say, I really like it and need an LC70 body in my life. Again, I'm sorry I looked being as I am not Australian. I watched Crocodile Dundee again, does that count? Updates are needed please. "thumbsup" |

Finally, I've updated the front to a linked setup to better mimic the real truck. Obviously, I had to extend those links to match the longer wheelbase that this truck affords. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800...924/vPqs1h.jpg Supershafty was kind enough to send me a set of his hood mounts that allow for a up and down movement. Nice! http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800...922/8hyTdj.jpg I also snagged a 3D printed RHD interior from R3Designs. Ryan does some great work. Good value too! http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800...924/7nLy5G.jpg More to come! |

I hate to see 3D printers price gouging so much. |

Shapeways prices are crazy, but they have a much higher quality than the average basement printer puts out. As long as you're happy with your purchase. That's all that matters. |
Re: 70 Series For Aussies ONLY I spent yesterday methodically giving a care about paint. I'm quite pleased with the results! You can call me the Canadian JS Scale now. So shiny! http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800...924/kRG06L.jpg Since this is turning out to be a fresh truck, I opted for fresh wheels and tires. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800...922/fK5aet.jpg The Fun Richards are nice. The stock foams are Godawful. I replaced them with some oversized firmer foams I had sitting around and wrapped the tires around these nice Vanquish Incision Method's. I had previously sanded the edges to make them pop a bit more. I'll adjust track width and see if we can't get a full tuck truck. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800...922/xR0m2Q.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800...922/dmCeiR.jpg |
Re: 70 Series For Aussies ONLY Some progress. Many small parts make for much work, but it's very rewarding. I'm quite chuffed. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800...924/I5Q2FH.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800...922/FeHfJV.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800...922/LJOGNX.jpg |
