Nice job on the motor so far. I've always wanted a cummins powered square body. Keep up the good work.

That's my dream truck too. Maybe one day. But until then I'll be happy with a 1:10 scale version. Thanks for looking

Good deal trying something new. The roller was my first real attempt also I really made more work for myself by not cutting more precise an not sanding edges before assembled.

Nice start, I think that the shape of that engine lends itself a first attempt. I like the oil filter.

Thanks Ditchrat. I wanted a Cummins for this build so I searched for a scale one. The ones I found were good quality but drastically expensive. So I decided to try to build my own..... Oh by the way. The oil filter is actually capacitor from a circuit board.

Spent the last 4 hours just on the valve covers. They were carved out of three .075 pieces of styrene that were glued together. The bolts on top are watch screws. I'm happy with the results. Til next time.

It is amazing how easy it is to work with styrene and how much skill some of the projects here must take.

Motors looking good. Im looking forward to your progress and encouraged by it to do some more styrene work myself.

Riding out with the family the other day and spotted this beast rig for sale. Other than some rot in the drives side quarter panel, it was in good condition. Beautiful Suburb. Not in my budget right now but one day I WILL owe a square body.

Worked on the axles today. After three straight hours of sanding I think I got them where I want them. There almost ready for paint. I reassembled them so I wouldn't misplace any parts.

Forward progress. Wanted to add more leafs to the leaf springs but thought more metal leafs would make it too rigid. So I decided to make leafs out of styrene. Don't really know if this will work but only time will tell.

I started by cutting styrene to length and drilling two holes in the middle to match the metal leafs.

Then I stacked the leafs in the appropriate order and heels the together with two screws and nuts so I can sand them down to match the metal leaf springs. (Forgot to take a pic of that step). Then I mounts them to the axle to check fitment and looks.

Mounted everything back onto the frame to check if the steering angles were still good. Plus I had to see how everything looked together.

Steering angle ok:

Pic of the front suspension all assembled:

On to the rear. The rear shackle mounts I ordered from Shapeways finally came in the mail. Shapeways really makes some great 3d printed rc parts.

The rear suspension all assembled:

Now with the body mocked I think it sits a little too high.

Think I'm going to cut a section out of the rear cab and front bed panel so that body will sit lower on the chassis to get the desired ride height i want. But that's for another time. I really like how the suspension turned out along with the beefier axles. So tell me what you think. Til next time. Thanks for looking

Not really an update. Was going through a box of parts and found these wheels and tires. Threw them on to see how they looked on the truck.

They're 2.2s so really not that scale. But I like the look. Reminds me of one of those trucks from Top Truck Challenge.

Probably will use them when I take Bruticus deep mudding.
Thanks for looking.

Had a little time to work on the truck today.
First I fixed the body so it would sit lower on the chassis by cutting a notch out the car rear and bed front wall.

Still need a little fine tuning to get it just right but it's getting there. I purchased some magnets from my not-so-local hobby shop. Planning on using them to mount the body on t he chassis.

Second I tried something that I've been wanting to do. Make my own bumper. I got some 3/4 square tube that I cut in half for a frame on another build (I never built it) so I started cutting and bending. This is the result

Rough but not bad for a first timer if I say so myself. I'm happy with how it came out.

I purchased some D rings a while back and thought this would be the perfect time to pull them out. I mocked them on the bumper to see how they looked.

Trying to decide on whether to leave that bumper looking like this, the homemade farm truck look, or add another piece of square tube to the bottom, angle it back, and taper the ends to make it look similar to a tough armor bumper. Decisions decisions. What do u think? That's all for now. Thanks for looking.

Thanks Mike. The look is starting to grow on me. Just need to figure out where I would put a winch if I decide to install one.

Really liking this build, nice fab work. Especially the axles!

Wish I had your scratch-building skills...

Thanks durok. If I can scratch build anybody can. This is my first time. It's just trial and error. I was afraid to try it but the guy at my not-so-local hobby store told me if you don't try then you'll never know if you can do it. As for as skills. I'm nothing compared to some of the other guys on here. But I'm getting there. Give it a try. Again thanks.

Is there enough room to cut out for the fairlead in the front of the bumper, and mount the winch between the framerails behind the bumper?

Not sure. I was planning on cutting a 90 degree metal plate n bolt it to the bumper to hold the winch (when I get one). Then I would be able to take it off and on when I want.
