Added a little more detail and i'm now calling this done. I'm just deciding what seats to use. |

Seats arrived, thank to Martin at RCBitz. I had planned to use the Axial Corbeau seats, but these RC4WD PRP seats are a little shorter, and loads lighter. The fit the interior much better. Also, i really like the fact that you can bend the sides of the seat in and out depending on how much room you have, and how wide your driver is I'm just about to start the paint on the body. so that will be the next update. Thanks for looking Last edited by neilus; 08-23-2017 at 08:44 AM. |

I've finally finished the prepping on the body, and i'm really pleased that the bobbed bed needed hardly any filling. I used Tamiya white putty, and grey fine surface primer. Primer is all done and ready for the top coat. I usually rush the painting but i've promised myself i'll take my time and do it right on this one. While the primer was drying i decided to make box number 3 for the rear bed. I wanted it a little bigger. Much happier with this once so it will be bolted into the bed once the final paint is dry. Started with a simple box. Glued together with CA. Added these little pieces. I can't believe i'm nearing 150 photos and i'm still not done! But i do hope to get the final color on in the next few days. Thanks for looking. |

Bobbed bed looks perfect! Box #3 looks great too, but since you're bolting it to the bed floor, why not leave the bottom out of the box thereby lowering the battery about 1/4"? Edit, nevermind forgot your battery already has a different box. |

I did toy with the idea of having the battery in the bed, but i opted for lower COG over having to take the body off to change it. I'm still working through the painting. I started painting the driver tonight, as the rain prevented me from starting the body top coat. However, while it was drying i decided to have a go at making some handles for the storage box. Another use of an old mountain bike spoke. Some 0.7mm alloy sheet i had lying around from something, can't remember what. Now it's starting to look like a handle. Ages ago when i started my scale garage i found on eBay a box of watch makers screws. These worked out to be perfect for fixing the handles on. Although they were extremely fiddly. They are M1.2. Here is the screw next to an M2.5 allen bolt for comparison. And here's the final result. The handle are a bit wonky, but they'll do! More to come soon.

Top coat is finally done. I think this is definitely the most patient and thorough i have ever been with painting. I'm used to just whacking a color on lexan bodies in an afternoon!!! I'm going to leave it a good few days before masking the rear bed up to black. Now, i really can't make up my mind whether to do the hood black, or leave it body colored. Any thoughts? Thanks for taking a look. |

I agree. The paint looks soooooooooo good! I like the solid color. The black hood is overdone.

I've finally finished painting and detailing the body. Apart from soldering up the lights, and the odd decal i'm calling the body done. I can see the end of the build in sight now. I'm hoping to finish it up next week and take it out for it's maiden voyage. Here's how the final paint job looks. It's not perfect, but i'm happy. Thanks again for looking.

Small update: So, i have spent the spare time i've had over the last couple of weeks finishing off wiring the lights, detailing the interior, and fitting the inner wells, and electrics for the final time (hopefully). Now, the lights work, the winch works, the esc is programmed, and everything works fine. I still need to give it a proper run to figure out whether the shocks need any fettling. Someone asked me where i got the driver. Well, the body is a figure from Kick Ass 2 Series 1, and the head is obviously a Tamiya one. I did have to chop an inch out of his torso to get him to fit correctly, but he's ok now. The last decision i need to make is on tires. I have some 1.55 Rock Stompers, some 1.55 Growlers and some 1.9 PBX A/T's. I'm torn between going with either what will work the best, OR what looks the best. So, hopefully next week i can finally post up some completed pics. It's been a reasonably long build process, but i have enjoyed every minute and can't wait to get it dirty! View of the winch bumper all mounted. And, how the finished interior now looks. As always, thanks for looking. |

Everything looks great. What size/type of material are you using for the tube work? |

I'm using a mix of 5mm tube, and 3/16" (4.7mm) tube. For the slider sides i used 3/16" solid rod, but i try to avoid using solid rod up high to keep the weight down.

I've mounted up the 1.55 Growlers and i'm really happy with the look! All that's left to do now is to fit the scale hubs and it's ready for action. When i started this build several months ago, i had a reasonable idea of how i wanted it to look. And, i think I've stuck to my plans fairly well. I've had to change a few things, like the battery location, how the dash is mounted and the rear shock location etc, as i went along, but it's all come together nicely. Now it's time to go and get it dirty! But, before that happens, i thought i'd share a few final photos. (A LOT of photos). I was intending to fit some bright trail lights, but couldn't decide on a mounting point that looked right, so I've just gone simple for now. I may look at adding additional lights, or a light bar in the future. And that's it! For now, anyway. This truck is going to be a keeper, and i intend to update this build in the future if and when i make any changes. Thank you for all the comments, and for taking a look. |

I thought i'd share a few completed body off shots. I added a JST connector to the Heyok light controller and the LED wiring loom on the body so i can remove the body completely. And here's some comparison shots between the 1.55 Growlers, 1.55 Rock Stompers and 1.9 PBX A/T's. Not sure which i prefer. Any thoughts??? If it stops raining this weekend i'm going to try to take it out for a spin. Pics to follow!!!

Watched Your Build Since You Started. Simply Outstanding Work You Did..... Great Job ....... Choice Of Tires Are Hard To Pick Since They All Look Good On The Truck , Go By Performance . |

Thank you so much. Happy you watched the whole build. It's been fun. I think Stompers for looks and general trailing, but i'll probably go with Growlers for any comps.
