1.2 Pumpkin?

I've been really taken by the Tamiya Pumpkin hard body. It’s a class M body and quite a bit smaller than 1/10 bodies out there. The idea is that it would work pretty will with the 1/14 scale tractor trucks out there. I spent the last month or so tracking down axles and trying to find wheels to fit.
This is what I found so far.
Redcat 1/16 crawler, and the new Axial 1.5/1.2 Yeti Jr wheels. I may step up to some 1.55 rims and the RC4WD 1.55 Dirt Grabbers.

That's going to be awesome!

I don't know the measurements, but you could look into the MST CMX and Losi Mini Rock Crawler/Slick Rock axles.

Re: 1.2 Pumpkin?

The vaterra ascender axles have small pumpkins and can be narrowed quite a bit easily and may fit the body.

1.2 Pumpkin?

I don't like agreeing with Jato, but check out the MST CMX/CFX chassis and/or axles, they match the Tamiya CC01 body dimensions.

Re: 1.2 Pumpkin?

The axles were the hard part to find, the CMX was too wide. The MRC was to narrow, not to mention a bit tough to source now. The new Yeti JR and trophy truck actually had the right width and wheelbase, but those diffs are open and I wanted a solid axle up front.

Thunder Tiger makes a 1/12 scale along with ERC, but I think they would be a bit wide as well. I wanted the tires to tuck into the wheel wells.

I settled on the Redcat 1/16 Everest as a donor truck. With a bit of work they should look like they belong on this truck.

The real trick will be to figure out how to stuff a 2 speed transmission in this thing.

The Traxxas 1/16 is one of the worst cars ever made. It handles like crap, the suspension is impossible to get setup correctly, and they are fragile.

My Pumpkin body on a modified mini summit does a pretty good job at crawling.

A 4:1 GRU, a Dynamite "Taser" esc, and 1.9s help a bit too. BUT ... I had to do some mod's to stretch the suspension to get the wheelbase to match, and I don't think you could do it with the Slash arms. Mine stands a bit wide, but it sure put new life into my 30 yr. old Pumpkin. :D
And it still gets more run time than all the rest.

I've beat my Mini Slash on brushless 2s and broken nothing, scraped the heck out of the body, that's it. It handles pretty well for narrow, light, over-powered little truck, but benenfits from stiffer rear springs. "thumbsup"

Slight change of plans. Using the axles off a Redcat Everest 16 they seem to fit under the Tamiya Jimny body much better.

Ordered some bits from Shapeways and they arrived yesterday!

Had to make a custom nut driver to install the ball links. I'm trying to re-use as much as the donor hardware as possible.

Hey that looks awesome! I am doing something similar but am going to persists with the Pumpkin body.

What chassis is that???

Re: 1.2 Pumpkin?

I couldn't find anything off the shelf and wanted to avoid using straight frame rails. I ended up drawing them in Fusion 360 and having Shapeways print them out in nylon. This is a much shorter wheelbase than the Pumpkin and I would need to modify them to fit.

There are a few new 1/14 scale crawlers that have come out whose axles would fit better under the Pumpkin IMO. The ones off the 1/16 Redcat Everest would need spacers and the shock mounting is not ideal but could be made to work.

Re: 1.2 Pumpkin?

Once I wrap up this project I was going to pick up one of these and mount the Pumpkin on it. The only modifications needed would be to shorten the wheelbase by 15cm.

Ok this looking cool!
Isnt the lunchbox the same wheelbase as the pumpkin?

And are those 1.5 wheels on the tiger? Hmmmmm..."thumbsup"

Re: 1.2 Pumpkin?

I'm not sure about the Lunchbox, the Pumpkin and the newest Jimny body from Tamiya share the same wheelbase I think.

Some progress today. I got some 1/18 ECX shocks. The stock springs are way too stiff. Pulled the oil out of them and dropped in some internal springs.

Fab a front and rear bumper as well.

Man, those Tamiya sticker sets take forever.

I left the headlight lenses clear to add light buckets at a later point.

The next bit is making sliders and finding something to cut wheel wells out of.

Thanks!

I cobbled together some sliders and took it for spin in the yard.

Re: 1.2 Pumpkin?

I've got some light buckets installed, waiting on brake LEDs to show up. Also mounted up an obscenely large winch on the front.

I have some 1.5 wagon rims and dirt grabbers on the way, but I'm kinda digging the undersized tires.

I'm kinda wanting to do the same thing to a Lunchbox.
