Chino63's F-150 a tiny tire tiny truck story.

Several years ago, I built a Tamiya Blackfoot scaler with a custom chassis on leaf springs which evolved into a 57 Chevy truck scaler on portal clad Losi MRC axles. The Blackfoot body was given to a friend and all memories of it were forgotten until I saw the rere body on eBay. A new plan was hatched for improved performance, more accurate scale appearance and of course, leaf springs.

I started with measurements of a Yeti Jr axle and some careful planning for a front steer axle. This was acomplished by using Losi MRC knuckles and C's, Losi Mini-t swing shafts from GPM and a GOD locker for the Yeti Jr axle.

I made a custom chassis out of 22ga sheet steel and kept it to a much simpler design compared to the last time which should yield a lighter but stiffer chassis. Spring hangars are from 16ga steel. The leaf springs are custom made and the shackles are of 1.5mm aluminum.

Made some brackets for the front winch and mounted the steering servo on the lower part of the frame but at full compression the arm and leaf spring hit so i will remount it above the rails and notch the bottom of the rail to clear the arm. Not much room on this one compared to an scx chassis. The last shot shows how narrow this is.

Nice work so far and enjoy seeing more Blackfoot body base rigs. I'm slowly building one myself on a barrage chassis that is about all that is left of the barrage.

Thanks! It's a fun build. Looking forward to seeing it some time. Start a build thread when you are ready. "thumbsup"

I'm tired of all the huge tire trucks. The large tires have really skewed our idea of scale proportions.

Looking good Dean! Awesome work on converting the axle for steering duties "thumbsup"

most amazing use of yeti jr axles... that's awesome!!!

i am building a 79 F series on 1.55 and struggling with axle width right now, as the narrowed codyboy axles are super narrow, but not narrow enough for the 7" wide jconcepts body.

this is incredible though, i will be checking back regularly! i cant resist the old school ford builds!"thumbsup"

Thanks for the words. My build is in my Sig. I plan on using 1.7 iroks since that is close in height as the 1:1 I'm basing my build on has for tires 42" iroks. Just working on lay out of things since it is unexplored territory with the barrage chassis.

I can imagine. You’re always very creative in your builds and come up some ingenious ways to get things to work for your needs.

Work of art sir. Thanks so much for letting me get in on this. No idea what I'm going to do with it yet, but it'll probably be a Toyota. ;-)

Love the use of the Yeti Jr axles. I was waiting for someone to spearhead the movement for the conversion of these for mini scale usage. Beautiful work and it inspires motivation.

Thanks Matt, you'd better snowshoe your way to the post office and get it before it gets sent back. Lol

I priced it out and a little more than I’m willing to go for what they’d go under. Although the ar18 looks better than any common 1/18 axle available. For a few more $$ I could get a RTR Temper or E18. Unless I used my YJr for a half donor....but not yet.

I hear you on the cost, definitely not cheap but like you said, they look good. I wanted something different and fits the theme of this build as well as add some width over the MRC axle. These are it.
