1970 Ford F100

Many moons ago, I found a killer deal on a NIP Pro-Line body that I just had to buy. I kept it waiting for a proper rig, in the package. Recently, I bought a used SCX10.2 off a buddy of mine and thought it to be a decent match

This will be a pretty mild build; bumpers and sliders and maybe a winch. I've been collecting parts over the winter, and I think I'm finally ready to begin the building process.

I'm still waiting on a few more things, hopefully they'll be in tomorrow. In the mean time, my desk is full of parts from the teardown and I have a few pictures to share

I may hitcha up, once I start detailing the body...

USPS apparently hates me. My order from RPP was supposed to be delivered yesterday. Tracking showed it hit my local post office, then went about 10 miles north of me, then an hour south of me, then 30 miles north again, then it hit my local post office again and said it was out for delivery at 7am this morning. Post man came and went today, so maybe Monday

There's a motor in that order, but in the mean time, I cleaned up and re-greased the transmission. Went ahead and installed it.



I'm a bit of a cyclist/bike mechanic, so I used what grease I had around. Park Tools PPL-1



Checked tracking again and now it says its available for pickup at my local post office. They're closed tomorrow. I worked all week and waited on this to be delivered so I could make some progress over the weekend... So I'll get parts when I have to work, GREAT.

I have a tube of the PPL grease, too. Does it work well for RCs?

Says "reduces bearing drag, resists water, and inhibits corrosion" also says "protects parts under extreme conditions"

It's probably not the best but I'm no expert... I read enough to give it a try! Plus I had it handy...

I checked tracking every chance I could Monday at work, fully expecting to pick up my package at the post office. Thankfully, the powers that be made me check tracking again right before I clocked out and it said my package had been delivered Thanks for jerking me around USPS, I'd like to not do that again if that's ok...

I promptly set to work installing parts and cleaning up what I had, here's results



I firstly swapped out the springs in favor of the SCX10 III springs, mostly cause I like the color more. I didn't notice much slop going from the 12.5mm springs that were on these shocks originally, but these springs have a 13mm diameter





I also installed a Holmes Hobbies 16t motor. Going to a 5 slot motor should be a treat, and I like it's overall looks. I trimmed the stock battery tray significantly, for future installation of electronics, and you probably spy a new servo.



Steering will be handled by a HiTec 5645MG and a cheap clamping horn



I also rebuilt and regreased these axles, and installed black diff covers. The tires are 1.55 RC4WD Rock Stompers, and I'll be running RC4WD stamped steel wheels.

I just placed another order to RPP, with things to hang these axles and hopefully be ready for wiring. The weather is almost nice enough to get outside and paint my body too

I know my camera (cell phone) takes horrible pics. Not only am I looking at getting a proper dslr, but I want to build or possibly buy a few backdrop items and lighting tools as well. That should improve things! At least when I post my crap on the internet

I'm fairly new to 5 slot motors myself, just wanna see what the craze is all about

Back in the day, we ran whatever motor worked and were just happy to see our rig move. But I know there's gotta be something better. I guess I got "convinced"

The whole 3 slot/5 slot-turn/KV mess is confusing as hell to me! but Im slowly getting better versed in them

I used to own an F100 body. It was probably too nice for me and it eventually got sold. I've regretted that moment ever since, and am doing my best to honor it with this build



Except with the paint...

For paint, I'm thinking something more along the lines of this:

It works, but I prefer the Lucas Oil Red N' Tacky over it. But it's better than nothing.

What is the actual height of those Rock Stompers? I know they claim 3.85", but I know that number is notorious for being wrong. I like the look of these, but don't want them to look too small especially with 1.9" wheels stretched on.

My tires measure a shade under 4". A guy could call em 4" diameter and not be very wrong

I'm just too anxious of a person to wait for the rest of my parts... so I decided to button up the electronics. Added a Spektrum SR315 Rx, a Dynamite 60 amp brushed ESC, and a Power Hobby 3000mAh (30c) 3s (11.1v) LiPo battery



I also hacked up an original SCX10 receiver box, and mounted it to the front crossmember. I added spacers for the perfect amount of driveshaft clearance, though, once the axles are hung I might have to adjust some





I might eventually replace this battery box. It's pretty beat up

A guy got some parts in... time for an update

The original AR44 instructions had only one bearing on the axle lockout in the rear, while the front has a bearing in the housing too



After some tinkering with the rear axle, I found the bearings for the lockout would also fit the axle housing





I also have been lusting over the Atlas transfer case from Vanquish. Had to have one...





Nestled in nicely, and looks terrific!



When I rebuilt the transmission a few days ago, I wasn't sure about the pinion/spur combo. The guy I bought the rig from was running some random 20-something tooth 48p pinion and it had to go. Back to stock it went



I re-installed the spur cover and am putting a "done" stamp on this transmission (for now...)
