Thunder Tiger Hilux

So this will be ran as is for awhile but eventually the plan is to use it as donor for a tamiya hilux hardbody build. Figured I'd go 1.55 since it will spend most its life on those or maybe 1.7's.

I didnt grab bunch of pics and as of now since its all stock other than trying out bunch of old tire\wheel combos I had laying around on it. The TLT's really make me think of the start of the monster trucks when 48" tires were the norm and some ran tractor tires still.

Good little trucks. Picked up a 2nd when they went in sale for $80. The axles are narrower than the Yota II axles from RC4wd. You just have to get creative with body choices

I just picked one up as well. Total donor truck for my new build.
Took it out of the box, tried it and took it apart. Cool little trucks "thumbsup"

Looks fantastic with the TLT tires.. :) Kind of reminds me of the those old Radio shack trucks I bashed around with as a kid.

Yeah I can get that! like the old nikko Lobo truck I had as kid.

I plan to throw couple more sets of tires under it for pics here today, nothing earth shaking but might be useful for someone thinking about what to run.

Ok so here are few of the combos I have laying around. These are all just stuck on one side and the body posts are adjusted all the way up for the TLT setup still, you would want to lower them back down for some of these. I also have some 2.2 but I think that would be out of place here so I just went 1.5-1.9.

And these are just the chassis flipped over to set the Tamiya Hilux cab over the axles with the Gmade\TopCad setup that I plan to use as poser setup. I think with slightly thicker hex's this will be nice combo for a stock truck look. Last pic is my inspiration pic but plan on blue with black wheels and probably stock Tamiya chrome bumper's.

Re: Thunder Tiger Hilux

Just keeping the thread alive here. Ever since I put the TLT setup on it I have just been running it around in gravel driveway and sand pit from my old inflatable pool area. The setup is light enough that it doesn't seem to be working the truck too much and the speed that seemed too fast with the stock tires works out pretty good for just running around loose terrain. I wouldn't call it a basher for sure since it's not going to be jumping through the air or pulling wheelies any time soon but still fun. Thought about trying one of the sub $30 380 Brushless systems I see on ebay\banggood\amazon etc but thinking more power might start breaking what has been 100% reliable truck.

Re: Thunder Tiger Hilux

Well the truck must have heard me talking about its reliability and decided to give me a reality check , stripped the main step gear in trans running it in grass with our pup. I see some online pics of metal gear sets upgraded but no info on who makes them.... any help out there?

EDIT: 4\18 Ended up getting info on gears so I have a set of GPM metal gears on way. I'll be sure to post up when the arrive, then might go for ring and pinion upgrade to pave the way for power bump I was thinking about.

Re: Thunder Tiger Hilux

Ok so I got the new gears in mail yesterday and got them installed last night. They look great and fit right in, only downside is they are apparently a reduction gear set so seems bit slower which would be perfect on the stock tires or for crawling but dont fit very well for the mini monster style I had going on.

This might be perfect time to actually use the drivetrain for my hardbody hilux build since that was going to be a scale build mainly for looks and the slow pace would fit well.
