Cool GTSLOW builds an SCX10ii based Isuzu MU.

The excitement around C0/1 in my area has picked up significantly in the last year. With that said I've decided to join the shenanigans. Everyone around here is running XJs, Comanches, JKs, etc... I wanted something different but I also wanted something SCX10ii based.

So to kick things off I picked up a Tamiya CC01 Isuzu MU. I stole the body package and components and sold the rest. My next challenge was wheel base. I explored the shorty wheel base chassis but I wanted to stick with C-channel rails. So I found a donor SCX10ii in my area.

Feel free to follow me as I build this unique SWB rig.

It's so purdy!

The partial donor.

This is going to be a narrow and short. Therefore some Beef Tubes Narrow 44s were in order.

Comparison to stock.

I'm weird and always install the extra rear bearing on my AR44s. More is better right?

All set.

I assembled the front axle and threw it under the body. Just over half covered. However, I opted for the RC4WD narrow 5-lug hubs. This should bring the wheels in another 1/8" on each side.

Next up is getting the axles mounted. I'm running a SCX10ii "kit" style transmission. I really wanted to run a crossmember style setup like the TF2. Realism right? Well there's only one way to accomplish this task!

I've also got a stockpile of styrene for the interior and engine bay.

Here's where I finished the night. I've decided I'm going to connect the tcase through the link mounts. In doing so I can run the longer suspension links by moving the link mounting point closer to the center of the chassis. I'm not a fan of how suspension works when the links are super short.

This piece is designed to slip over the frame rail and provide a lower and upper rear link points. Tonight I will start working on the upper portion of this piece. It will connect to that upper left hole on the SCX10ii kit transmission. So a transfercase/link mount.

Drivers side link mount, riser, transfercase mount is printing! This is draft version #6. Word of advice, save your fillets/chamfers for the very end when final polishing your piece.

Will test fit today and if all is well I'll get started on the passenger side.

Draft #7 is here. Increased the size of the transfercase mount and moved it back about 4mm. I think this one is it!

Excuse my disaster of a computer desk. It's been my primary place of work the last few days. Both rear mounts are complete and in! I was originally going to connect to the top hole only. However, I felt going to both would really help hold and stiffen everything up. Hopefully I can find some time this weekend to begin the working on the front.

……...I should really get the body work done now so that the paint can cure for a week. I bought a can of this stuff and Mopar's Scratch Filler and Primer.

Did I mention I'll be cutting the hood open and creating a hinge as well as fender wells and an engine?

Great work so far, I'm currently looking for a weird swb project to start and is good to see other projects for inspiration.

After a break getting my VS4-10 Ultra together I'm back at it with my Class 1! Today I've completed my rear hinge. This will allow me to run Velcro or magnets up front and have a solid rear mounting point. The screws will go from the inside, through the body, and into the rear bumper. The goal is to have the body mounted, links made, and axles under her by the end of the long weekend.

Primer has been layed! I'll let her dry until Sunday and then sand and base coat! In the mean time I'll get the electronics sorted out and driveshafts.

While I let the primer dry I got to work on the chassis and driveline. My first issue is the short rear driveshaft needed. Little bugger is around 45mm. Given this build is mostly DIY why not keep the trend going???

Axial WB8 HD ends
2.5mm pin
3D printed coupler

The pin keeps everything aligned while the coupler transfers the power. I printed a few extras and also bought some more pins. Yes the first coupler looks rough. That was my prototype lol.

When extended the coupler has about 70% coverage whether it's forward or backwards. Im really happy with how it turned out. Fingers crossed it's durable. If not ill have to figure out a metal one or maybe design a metal insert. Either way this rig when complete isn't going to get beaten so I think she'll be OK as is.

Here's a picture of my roughed out links and suspension. As of right now everything is going together so well it almost worries me!

Laid the primer down Thursday. Waited until Saturday to sand and wash. Then the humidity decided to linger...for three days! Finally got a break today so I throw down the base. I'll let her dry for a few days and do a 2000 grit wet sand and polish.
