| Robotboy's Scorcher Bug Part 2 Upgraded
As much as I liked my Bug I knew it could be improved on. The chassis was small and not very up-gradable. I was never a fan of the trans even after upgrading it. It did the job, and it was much better than stock, but it was still meh. It's been going quickly and have forgotten to take many pics. Started out picking up a SWB chassis from NWSD. It's the Derringer. It's has many mounting options for links, shocks, etc. For the trans I went with the Dlux Hamberger. I wanted to front mount it but I just couldn't fit it right anywhere up there. So in the rear it went. For the skid I went with the Vader Skinny Monkey. This would keep my link lengths about the same and save on some headaches. For the transfer case I picked up a cheap Injora. I replaced the middle shaft with one from an Axial trans. It was a little longer and probably stronger. I'm running it inside-out which gives about 11% UD to the rear. Rough guess Going back and forth on the shocks, still haven't decided. I'm leaning towards staying with the PL but pondering the Axials. I was going to stick with the CR12 axles. I like the looks of them and I've upgraded them with alum. knucks and steel diff gears but again... I opted for something a bit better. My AsiaTees order showed up, I think I made a good choice. Off for some fun wrenching... Last edited by Robotboy; 07-21-2021 at 11:59 AM. |

A little more progress. Got the Boom Racing BXR70 Phat axles together with the optional XT diff covers and the SOA mount on the front. Installed under the bug. Just waiting on a new gear for the trans, it's a bit worn, and a different motor. This should be done some time this week... with any luck |

Nice! I have those axles on My Scorcher Crawler. They fit great! What wheels and tires are you running?

For the most part...done. After messing with different motor/esc combos I settled on a Brood 27T Trailbreaker with a HW 1080 and a CC BEC. Everything's staying cool and have just the right amount of speed & torque. The bug does great for such a small rig. Final specs & some posers... Tamiya Sand Scorcher Body. Scorched Parts Dashboard. Junkyard Stance Rear Window Louvers. NWSD Derringer Chassis. Boom Racing BRX70 Phat Axles w/ XT Diff Covers. Dlux Ham Berger Trans w/ FCP Bun & Wrapper. RR 10T Pinion Gear. Injora Tranfer Case, running inside-out for UD rear. Vader Skinny Monkey Skid. GPM Wide Aluminum Wheel Hexes. Brood Trailbreaker 27T Motor. HW 1080 ESC. Annimos 25kg WP Servo. CC BEC. Proline 70mm Pro Scale Shocks. GPM Driveshaft for transfer case. Shortened Wildboar driveshafts. Homemade Alum. Lower Links. Boom Racing 1.55 Maxgrappler 3.74" Tires. Boom Racing 16 Hole Classic Steelies Beadlocks. Proline Overland Roof Rack. KYX Front Stinger Bumper for scx24. Wheelbase is sitting at 10". |

Love it! Especially the matte black headlight/taillight trim, and the reversed rear wheels. Nice stance... |

Thanks guys! It's been a fun project Only thing I'd like to do is find some decent plastic sliders for it. The MST's I'm using get hung up, kinda defeats the purpose but they save the body. Tried a set of GSpeed's, couldn't make them work. Not a pressing matter, I'll eventually figure it out. |

It’s a really neat build, thanks for posting it up. Lots of interesting parts you’ve put together. The axles sit really nicely under the Scorcher body, and those pumpkins... |

they're heavy which gave me weight low. Much needed

Great project, I liked it before, but really like the new axles. As a noob I'm still learning, and love to see these kinds of builds.

Great work making everything fit and look good! Those Phat axles use AR44 gears correct? I've been thinking about another skinny/short build with an MST body. |

They do use AR44 gears and they are heavy suckers. No weight needed down low. I like them, just make sure you go through them and add loctite where missed.
