Default Tamiya Light Armored Vehicle

Finally got the trials rig up and running. So far I've only installed a 55t lathe motor. Upcoming mods will be Hitec 645mg turned into winch and full ball bearings. I dug these old Pro-line Dirt Hawg tires, for 1/10 scale buggies, out of the R/C pile and modified the rims to work on these outer axles. These tires work great, but aren't legal for comps.

The military does use tow ropes.

if you're set on the round material I'd use some light cable like bicycle brake cable.

Have you ever seen the oversized tow ropes? They look exactly like the one I'm using.

Took the LAV for a swim the other day and she didn't like it very much.

I figured I needed to make it a little more water/mud resistent. So, I modded one of the plastic cases that the digital Hitec servos come in. Everything tucks in nicely, I just need to seal it up a little better.

It is the same chassis as the Hummer without the heavy plastic body. This body is lexan and arrives painted, just apply decals and go.

The front diff is locked, the rear is still open. The tires will remain unmodified per the trials rules. I also have a set of the BFG's on HPI touring car rims to bash with. I'm going to narrow a different set of TC rims down to roughly a 1/2" maybe less, just to see if it helps.

The front bumper is just a 1/2" X 1" .062 thick strip of alum. I just drilled a hole to tie it to chassis and bent it up to hold the front lower A-arm "wire" in place.

what is it with you XC guys and water? Seems like every XC vid I see they are submerged at least once.

I locked the front diff with JB Weld. When you assemble the diff(s) just fill them with JB Weld instead of grease.

As far as lifting it goes, you're limited by the stock dogbones. If you try to lift the vehicle it puts the dogbones at a bad angle in the drive cups, therefore it'll bind under acceleration.

I'm sure the 2 motor thing COULD work, there would be alot of fab work involved though. If you want 2 motors the Tamiya Wild Dagger is set-up like that.
