| camel trophy defender ***29-06-08, working steeringwheel and started on snorkel***
Well, just want to show you my current project, I'm doing a camel trophy defender 90. The thing I'm most proud of are the rims, as there didn't exist any landie steel wheel, I decided to draw them myself in solidworks. And now many many people own them, as RC4WD has taken them in production. Furthermore I have made the roll cage, removed the roofwindow. And I thought I finished the roofrack, but I found out it still need a crossbrace at the front. The way I attached the innercage is by drilling holes in the chassis and soldering some threadrod into the tube of the rollcage, so I can screw it on Last edited by Vapex.eu; 06-29-2008 at 12:35 PM. |

Yeah, I'm pretty proud on the wheels My brass is coming from conrad when I need a lot. And when I only need one tube, I just buy it at the local ironware dealer (don't know how to call it) |

Wow that looks nice! Great work on the wheels! I´m sure soldering the roof rack was a lot of work, I´m also doing some brass work at the moment... I hope it won´t break with the first rollover |

Well, it is taking way too much time. But finally an update. Today I have cut the front grille out of the body, as this is the grille of an airco model and have to be moved back a bit. Also cut out a section of the grille so you do not see the body directly behind the grille. There's going to be a radiator behind it. Besides that I have moved the place for the fuel cap to the right place, removed the rivets (they aren't there on the real model), and going to do the door handles for the 86 model. Also decided it is going to have dual axle chassis instead of the cc-01. Time for pics: |

That is a bad ass rig, Your attention to detail is 2nd to none. But to have a proper defender you must go with straight axles ft and rear!!! |

Yeah, did not mention that. But I'm gonna put this on a Mirek chassis. As I also thought to myself this on a cc-01 is really not great.

Today I worked on the door handles, and also modded my hand together with that. So only one side is done (not ready) Here's a pic of how it is now, a bit much putty was needed to repair the scratches made. But It's gonna be nice and smooth ;) First layer of putty is now drying. And how it is gonna be with the lift-up door handles. |

Well today I have cut the other door handle, and sanded the other side, and the filled it again (I really hate sanding) But I found some for what I need your thoughts, this car doesn't have a door handle at all at the backdoor. While the real does have a door handle there  So I immediately thought there msut be a doorhandle here Only problem I found is the size of the 1.9 tires at the backdoor, on the real model the sparetire is not exactly in the middle of the door. But 1,9 tires are a bit big for this door. So when moving the tire a bit to the right, it will sit in front if the seam from the door. And then it couldn't be opened in real life. Then there can be a compromis, and that is: moving the tire to the right. But only a little bit, then the doorhandle will be behind the tire. But not that much, and the seam will be cleared for the biggest part. Standard: Compromis: What should you do? And of course the other fixed door ;) | |
