| New FJ40 with RC4WD Ultimate Scale Axles
Originally the new axles were going to go under my OG scale 'yota but I figured I'd stick them under something that more people would be using these axles for. I had this Hilift chassis sitting around and wasn't too happy with the performance due to the high center of gravity. Brushless Goat setup/3 speed, more of a basher than anything but fun to drive. I figured it would be more suited to testing these axles. I started with the front by disassembling the suspension and switching back to the standard shackle configuration. Had to ditch the stock spring perches in order to keep the drag link from binding on the spring due to the high steer knuckles but that was fine with me. I did however use some M3 nuts and washers between the spring and axle instead. The left rear bolt got a standard M3 nut and was cut down for clearance of the drag link. Here's the front end completed. Friction dampers mounted with no issue. The rear got basically the same treatment as the front.Since the rear axle needed to be flipped, I just ran some M3 button heads up through the axles and installed some M3 nylock nuts on them with some washers. Then through the springs and some more nuts. The stock friction dampers mounted fine on the axle using all stock hardware but I needed to space the frame mounts out due to the wider mounting tabs on the axle. No big deal, found some spacers (8mm wide) and was good to go. Here's the rear finished. The Traxxas links on the rear are there to keep the leaf springs alive for a while longer. And the mandatory flex shot. Now to get the body painted and mounted. Then a proper thrashing! |

Hope to see it tomorrow at Folsom. Looks dead sexy. Granted, I would like to see them on "A real scale crawler" over a High Lift, but I see why you did it. |

This thing is awesome!!! I got to check it out this weekend at the NorCal comp. The axles are amazing, and this rig flat gets it! I got a small video of him launching this thing over some ramps that I'll try to post up in a few days. I was very surprised how stable this thing was at high speeds, he was whipping doughnuts at high speeds launching off rocks and jumps and it stayed planted! Sweet rig! |

Well, I tore it up like Hua asked me to! I was blasting through the washes crawling through the rocks and hitting the rock race jumps! What a blast! Definately one of my favorite all around rigs! I just need to work on the suspension a bit. Sorry, no action shots due to the fun factor of this rig. Here are the only two pics I got. As far as the axles go, I hammered down on these thing for two battery packs worth of fun. Bound up in more than a few instances, free rev'd during the jumps until the landing and bashed hard. They took it all without issue until (third battery) a familiar clicking noise eminated from the rear diff.:-( Fun time over. I disassembled it to find what I figured would happen. Tore up spool/gear. No worries though as Hua said they are working on a steel replacement. The rest of the axle, stout! No issues what soever with the outer stubs on the front so far, everything still in excellent shape and ready for more. |

thanks! Carnage is pretty self explanatory. The important thing to note here is that the rest held up - Im sure the dogbones would have broken on a t-rex, f350 etc under the same circumstances Keep in mind I hadto thrash hell out of these to break em... took me back to when I had a wild dagger with a msc Last edited by Fracture; 05-06-2008 at 02:20 AM. |
